Cal may have picked up a hidden gem in Andrew Mauschardt, a quarterback from Santa Fe Springs, California, who on Sunday committed to Cal reportedly as a preferred walk-on in the class of 2024.

A year ago, Mauschardt had offers from Illinois, Indiana, Coastal Carolina, Boston College and San Jose State, among others, but he missed most of the 2023 season at St. Paul's High School. He suffered a knee injury in the first quarter of the fourth game and did not play the rest of the season.

Good to have a robust QB room.

St Paul has always been an over achieving small school team and has an incredible history down here. They always seem to make the CIF playoffs and play tough, well disciplined football. A welcome addition.

Hopefully he is healthy to compete with the other QB's this Spring? If not he will for sure have to wait until next year. Can't believe nobody would take him and give him a scholarship. Injuries are part of the game.

He has scholarship offers from Boston College, Indiana, San Jose State, Coastal Carolina, Liberty and Arkansas State but elected to walk on at Cal instead.
