QB commit for '25 Jaron Kaewe Sagapolutele had his first game of his senior season this week and absolutely went off. I'm not obsessed with the public national ratings but after his Elite 11 performance if he keeps playing like this then he's gonna be a lock to move up the rankings to mid or high 4* which would provide some nice recruiting momentum since prospects pay attention to where the top QBs are going

Sagapolutele is a stud, still very underrated and gives me tremendous hope for the future of Cal football.

It's already started, Rivals updated their ranking of him today to move him from unrated on their Rivals250 list of prospects up to no. 169 and a 4* prospect. That gave him a bump of 3/4ths of a point on the 24/7 composite list and I assume he'll continue to rise as other services update their ratings, he's currently a high 3* prospect by the composite rankings

Jaron does remind me of Penix Jr. or Tua, but the team they played, Damien, is a division lower and not good comp for them at all. It's like Cal playing Pacific in 1991. That said, I think Campbell will be good.

That's true, Damien won't be the best team they play this year but you love to see the dominance and efficiency no matter who they line up against. JKS and Campbell are the 4th rated team in HI and play all 3 teams ahead of them this season, week 3 they visit Punahou and in October they play at both Kahuku and Mililani.

Kahuku in particular should be a massive test considering that they started the year ranked 25th in the country before a rough first game where they fell behind 13-0 and eked put a 14-13 comeback win. It'll also be a fun game to follow for Cal fans since that's where commits Aiden Manutai and Lebron Williams play. We'll see how good Manutai/Lebron and Kahuku are this week when they visit top 10 team Bishop Gorman, they also have #1 in the country Mater Dei coming to play them later this year and the game against JKS and Campbell is their season finale so there should be some good buildup

Yes. Here is last year's final Hawaii High School Football rankings according to Max Preps:
https://www.maxpreps.com/hi/football/23-24/rankings/1/?mobile=1

Campbell finished at #4 and Damien at #15 (top half of the state and with a winning record) but the drop off in Hawaii football is pretty steep after the top powers. It was why Joe Igber setting the Hawaii state rushing record at Iolani (ranked behind Damien last year) was SO remarkable. Similarly, we should also keep in mind that team strength and QB play are not nearly identical and great QBs can play for teams that are not great. Campbell does not have to beat Kahuku to prove Sagapolutele is a great QB.

We really do have a great one in Sagapolutele.

I agree in general that team success doesn't reflect on an individual player, even if people act like team wins = QB wins. But even if his OL and weapons are subpar (idk if they are, I don't know a ton about their team) if he shows out against Kahuku, who have a nationally great defense, then it would reflect well on him. If they struggle it doesn't mean he's bad, and if they dominate it's not all on him, but it would be a very good sign and an awesome way for him to cap off his senior (regular) season

I think we are all in agreement.

It will be great if he proves his mettle against the top teams in Hawaii and increases his ranking, but mostly I'm really looking forward to seeing Sagapolutele in a Cal uniform.

If Cal fans are planning to take vacation to Hawaii this fall, check out Campbell High School football's schedule and maybe you can catch our future stud QB in action:

Big games in October against Mililani (where I was going to send my kids) and the final HUGE game vs Kahuku.

Many D1 recruits in the Milliani and Kahuku games including our safety from Kahuku.

What if you told her it's work related?

I might tell the IRS that, but my wife knows better.
