As long as Cal beats SDSU, I'd imagine we have another great timeslot versus Miami.

Yeah this is great. Was thinking this might have ended up being a 9am game.

Anybody have guesses on the Miami game time? We've got a decent size group coming and trying to plan...I'm hoping it's also late afternoon, but assuming it depends on how we play this week.

Yeah, if Cal can win at least one of the next two and Miami takes care of business that could be an ABC game.

this was the absolute blessing that was a nice get for moving to the ACC. when Washington and Oregon moved to B1G, they became FOX properties. ESPN lost all of pac 12.

they own the SEC, and get second tiered rights to B12 with AZ and ASU. They needed to fill 4pm and 7:30pm PT timeslots. Cal and Stanford are their only properties at 7:30pm that they have full control over.

If Cal gets good, expect a lot of 7:30pm prime time matchups for us which is GREAT at growing our brand for the next round

ESPN has been pretty good about dividing up the 7/7:30pm Saturday slots between their remaining western teams.

For Week 1 (Aug 31) they had Arizona there.
For Week 2 (Sept 7) it was ASU (and New Mexico State on ESPN2).
For Week 3 (Sept 14) it's us.
For Week 4 (Sept 21) it's BYU (this shows they'll also use the Mountain teams to fill this slot).

They also had Furd's game against TCU in a late Friday window in Week 1, so they've already spread it around to the schools that can play late games but haven't leaned too heavily on any one of them. It's also worth noting that the road teams in these games have almost never been from the Eastern time zone. They've been from Central Time or further west, with the lone exception being Liberty playing at NM State. ESPN has been pretty smart about scheduling.

Excellent observation. I'd imagine that they will keep spreading the peanut butter. Our game against Auburn and FSU was also away so they couldn't stretch into the 7:00 to 7:30pm timeslot. Arizona is a good team this year so they will be competition for those slots.

But going forward, let's say we stay near top 25 for rest of season (i know, i know…dare i dream), we have a good chance to be featured on ESPN's main channel multiple times for Cal home games. That means possibility for our game versus Stanford, NC State, Oregon State. Etc etc.

Ultimately the jump from the p12 network to ESPN main channel is a HUGE jump in viewership and it should reflect in the next round of alignment/negotiations.

PS> a benefit for stretching into the 7:30pm slot for games against the NCState of the world is that they will have to play at 10:30pm ET, which is some payback because I am sure they will slot us into a lot of those early games when we go east

Spreading it around in August and September makes sense, but in October and November they are going to want to go with winning teams, ranked teams if possible, for the national broadcasts in those later slots. Cal could be on a lot if we keep winning and become a story.

Beat me to it, but I disagree with the last part. I think they will slot us into late East Coast games in order to capture the West Coast audience, even if it is the ACC Network.

Quite true, though if we are playing teams from the East they will probably prefer to have it in an earlier window (say 4 or 5pm PT) to maximize viewership. I wouldn't be surprised if the Oregon State and Stanford games get placed in the late window, though. Those seem pretty ideal for that.
