Article about Indiana's program sugar daddy, Mark Cuban, mentions that Mendoza's price tag out of Cal was $2M.

Quote:

IU added key pieces to this year's team form the transfer portal, including running back Roman Hemby, center Pat Coogan, tackle Kahlil Benson and defensive tackle Hosea Wheeler. But the crown jewel is quarterback Fernando Mendoza, at a cost north of $2 million according to sources.

The Big Ten's average spending per program on football is $62M.

$4 million if you make the playoffs and it escalates per round: 4/4/6/6 million. Could be a good investment to say nothing of merchandising, tickets, etc

For what it's worth, I don't believe any of those NIL figures that end up in stories. Some might be true, but I bet most are third-hand info at best and unreliable.

I strongly doubt they paid Mendoza $2M.

I mean Tennessee paid Imgonnaleaveya like double that.

He is gone. I am not a fan of his though I was a big advocate when we brought him in. He changed my mind about him. So I don't begrudge him his payday but likewise I wouldn't ever seek him out for a photo if he was standing alone by himself in front of me. You may think me petty but I consider myself wiser now because of that whole arc.

$2m reasonable. Top guys were in the 3-5m range. Remember a lot of these collectives had excess money last year

Maalik Murphy at Oregon State is getting $1.5 million and stinks while Mensah at Duke got $4 million for 2 years ($8 million total) and we all saw how that went

They did and had to spend it before the House settlement took effect. That is why you are seeing so many players signing legit NIL deals with corporate sponsors now. It is the way to circumvent to revenue cap. DJ Lagway (Florida QB) just signed another deal. This one with Red Bull. He also has deals with Gatorade, Jordan Brand, Chipotle, Beats by Dre, T-Mobile and Mercedes Benz of Gainesville.

Nearly every day you read about multiple players signing legit NIL deals from various corporate sponsorship. Cal I know is working on trying to secure deals for JKS.

Comparing Indiana's record and our record, I think he made the right decision. But, hey, we have Wilcox!

mendoza will have horrific knee injury at some point in his career, likely sooner rather than later. the way he runs and the awkward way he always seems to get tackled (ala liberty bowl.) *not hoping for that, just an observation*

2 million for Mark Cuban is like what, $2,000 for the rest of us? Maybe even 200?

Nando's biggest decision will be whether he should leave for the NFL and …………take the pay cut.

Well, Nando is going to draft high……and end up on an NFL team than gives him 50% less time to throw than he is getting now and he will spend 50% more time on his back. We'll see how he fares.

I think NFL teams will not like him that much. Mediocre athlete and lacks high caliber arm talent. He'll definitely get drafted but I don't think that early.

He's about to upset Dante Moore's Oregon and be the favorites in the B1G. Sour grapes can't accept that he's actually good.

He outplayed Dante on the road and Indiana could be a top 4 seed

I only watched 5 minutes of the game and Indiana's OL looks very good

Saw Oregon blitze with 5 and Mendoza had a ton of time

Can he throw the long ball now? (a weakness while at Cal)

He's good, but it's the IU D that is carrying them today, and covering for Nando's pick 6 in the 4th quarter. He had a good but not great game.

That's not saying much, Moore is way overrated.

The IU defense held Oregon to 41 YARDS in the entire 2nd half.

The verdict is in on him as a college QB. I don't have the confidence in him that I had in Goff halfway through Goff's freshman season where I felt Goff would be a very good NFL QB…..even on a sh@itty team.

Sure, but it's shaping up to be Beck-Mendoza as the top QBs in the draft. He's getting the spotlight and a much better payday than if he stayed

It's not sour grapes. Mendoza is a good college QB and very easy way you should know I think that is true is I said he will get drafted. I just don't think on the NFL scale he is particularly talented.

Goff coming off of mediocre records from Cal (14-23) had no negative impact on his draft position.

Goff has a significant lead in almost every QB record at Cal, he's a once-a-generational talent and we were lucky he was here before NIL. Doubt he stays 3 years in today's game
