Instead of the incessant "Fire Wilcox" threads, how about a discussion on the CFP bracket? Personally, hate to see so many SEC teams in the mix, but hard to argue with the rankings. Who do you think should be in and who should be out?

Since Cal's not in, I could care less.

I think if Oregon loses to SC, they are out.
Miami (miraculously) is in on the basis of mostly beating Notre Dame despite two losses in a crappy conference. If GaTech wins out, Miami falls out

With this bracket, we might get a repeat of IU-OSU in the final...

Only way Miami gets in is if there is chaos. They won't even make the ACC championship game and the winner of that goes to playoff as the 11 seed

CFP doesn't matter to me unless it involves Cal. Even then, I don't think I would enjoy it.

Not having a tournament was the best part of college football. The move towards a playoff has destroyed the ability to enjoy the moment.

The playoff is basically fair. None of the ACC teams have particularly distinguished themselves this year, so it being a one-bid league is fine.

Miami is in the Sagarin top 10 (currently #9) and could be worthy of an at large bid should they not get the automatic berth provided they stay there.

Miami is the only team with an argument for making it as an at-large. But they took two losses in conference so it will be tough.

I think "not Cal" at #1 was expected. "Not Cal" at #11 is a big stretch. I think "Not Cal" is going to come away with the title, but "Not Cal" will give them a run for the money. My darkhorse pick is "Not Cal", but I think they are still a longshot.

. If Miami and Virginia tech win, the ACC has a shot at two in the playoffs, which will be good for revenue. Miami does not make the Cinference champ game of the other two win out. So they could most likely get an at large bid. Particularly if ND wins out which they will. If G Tech or. Virginia loses, then we are a one team cinference.

Any thoughts on JMU? One loss is to Louisville, play the cougs this week.

Anecdotally, drove by their stadium (had no clue where JMU actually was). Beautiful setting and venue.

SMU did the acc no favors last year and is arguably weaker this year

Agree. Their big win was ND at home by 3 in August, fifth in their own conference.

They'd have to jump Tulane who is ahead of them and be the fifth conference champ

They are also state champ, beating Florida, South Florida and Florida State, which is admittedly was not as tough to do this year. I guess their best shot is if they play in and win the ACC Championship Game?

their best shot is that the beat the team 5 spots ahead of them and have the same record. ND lost to Texas who is not great and to Miami…who apparently is not great? The head of the committee basically said if Miami wins out they would have to deal with that issue. Head to head should matter. The lack of marquee names in the ACC this year hurts. But I still think Miami has a chance if they win out over someone. A lot of the top 12 will lose in the next three weekends. Miami has a fairly easy schedule left.

ND lost to Texas A and M not Texas. A and M is the undefeated number 3 team in the country.

The College Football Playoff is the WORST addition to college football in the past 25 years. It created many of the problems that college football currently has.

The only problem with the playoff is the size of the field which will be corrected in future seasons, which could not be said for the BCS which needed non-stop tweaking from its inception

The playoff has many more problems than that my friend.

1. It killed the regular season which was the best regular season in sports

2. It is killing traditional rivalries.

3. It lead to the ridiculous conference alignments.

4. It allows the power schools and power conferences to exert their power over the other schools in a way that benefits them.

5. It made all the bowl games meaningless.

Should have just been the +1: take the two highest rated bowl game winners after the traditional bowls are played. Or expand that to the 4 highest rated bowl game winners after the traditional bowls are played.

The traditional bowls would still have had consequence. It would be a huge first round play in: Lose your bowl game you are out. Great TV. Great bowl attendance, with fans hoping their team will get a shot. Tradition, which is what differentiates the college game from the NFL, would be maintained as well.

These conference championships are kind of blah.

tOSU and Indiana both get byes no matter what

Bama and Georgia both in- though Bama may be shaky

More consequences for "lesser conferences"

BYU out, Texas Tech in and gets a bye

Tulane in

Virginia in if they win, Duke out even if they win

Miami out of conference championship but could get in

Acc may get shut out if Duke wins and JMU slides in with Tulane. At least Booger had this.

That probably does happen if Duke wins. ACC needs to fix its tiebreaker rules for future seasons.
