If in an alternative reality, Andrew Luck wanted to be Cals head coach? Would you want him?

Based on how he conducts himself on the sideline. Wouldn't you want a guy like that as our head coach?
And wasn't that game an example of what's wrong with Wilcox?

Luck grabbed and screamed at his player who got into a cals player face. I was proud of him for that.
He screamed at and escorted the Stanford player into the end zone in the middle of an espn interview. that got on my nerves but i understood.
He seriously cares about Stanford football and its evident.

Seriously weren't just a little jealous of how much he cared about Stanford football.

Wilcox never went to Cal. He doesn't care and its obvious. He hasn't cared for 10 years and that's obvious too.
We care and that's why we want him gone.

Bring in someone who cares about Cal football.

Furd's GM went to Furd; our GM went to Cal. They probably both care about their alma maters approximately equally.

Wilcox cares, too, I'm sure, but he is deficient at both recruiting and coaching. Tedford didn't care like an alum cares, but he could coach. Nobody cared more than Joe Kapp, but...

There was something special about that Andrew Luck viral video. It was a great advertisement for them. The top of the broadcast said something about having more duties than Rivera.

The only problem I see with it is: Luck seems to be really close to the players and that may deter a top-notch coach if there aren't clear-cut boundaries.

Luck chose the current coach for an interim basis and so he has pull that would not exist with a non-interim, this is a nothingburger

Having a connection to a university is a cool story, but completely irrelevant as a coach.

Coaching issue aside, Luck is one of the few Furds I have respect for. He was a hard nose football player. I also respected Richard Boone.

I take your point, and Luck caring about the state of Stanford football generally, aand Big Game particularly has a lot to do with why they won. Would I want him? No. The person that we hired that cares about Cal Football is named Ron Rivera. A great player at the collegiate and professional level. Coach Rivera was Coached by Joe Kapp, who bled Blue and Gold, and was the last Cal QB to play in a Rose Bowl. A great player at the collegiate and professional level. Sports Illustrated has a great cover of Kapp with the moniker "The Toughest Chicano." He was a badass, although his successor, Bruce Snyder, was a much better coach.

Also, I thought it was odd that Stanford hired Troy Taylor. Just kind of icky.

Well said. Caring is important but waaaaaay down the list after talented athletes and coaching ability.

Honestly - neutral. I'd have infinity preferred Missouri 's Coach. Maybe I'm granting the Monty exemption.

That hurt. I personally was screaming at the tv for luck to get off of the f'n field …not out of disrespect… but because I f'n hate him and all things Stanford.
But yeah, I agree, it was uncomfortable watching the GM's lurking around on the sidelines behind the HC's as the earlier poster suggested.
Edit: I paused my immature hatred for him as a pro but it was re-engaged when he returned
