True, but you need to leave some room below us for Syracuse and all their mistakes. The penalties, the INTs the missed FGs. They were handing us the game... and we just barely took it.

Agree!! It's so frustrating, especially so since I love our CAL. I live in Houston now, and some of the high school football here is amazing. You should see the stadiums here for high school!! Right now everyone is glued to UT/ Ohio State.

High school football might be amazing but don't kid yourself, it's not college football by any means, even in texass.

Thank goodness no I do not live in texass. Cal or Syracuse would absolutely steamroll even the best high school team. There's a huge difference between having a few D-I recruits and putting 85 D-I players on the same roster.

Maybe you misunderstood what I was alluding to??? Either way, it's ok. Support here for hs football is amazing. Personally I don't miss CA or WA (where I lived for nine years before moving here to Houston). It is amazing how fast this state is growing. I really think that the future of America is Texas, it's not CA. I say in ten years will start seeing that. Fingers crossed for CAL's next three games.

From the sound of it, you're better off out of Texas, except for Austin. You might find some friends there.

But, your point is well taken. Most of those top Texas hs teams have a few 4 stars, but they are immature, physically. Now, put a team of them together 4 years later and you might have something.

I went the other way around. I lived in Texas as a little kid, before moving to California, where I grew up. I have some fond memories of Texas, but am glad I left. I visited Texas for work a couple times in the early 2000s; I was glad for the trips back to Texas but even more glad to be flying back to California.

For one, humidity is not my friend. For another, the natural beauty of California dwarfs that found in Texas*. Also, California has all four seasons within driving distance.

Finally, the food scene in California is the best. I can have pastrami breakfast burritos in the morning, goulash for lunch, and doro wat for dinner followed by a nightcap of California wines. Don't get me wrong, Texas BBQ is the best and Texmex is also fantastic, but the melting pot of cuisines and cultures in California is nonpareil.

Sure, there's plenty California doesn't get quite right. The cost of living is also ridiculous! But overall, California is about as close to paradise as I've found.

*Is there anything to rival Yosemite? That's one of the most beautiful spots on God's green earth, IMHO.

lived in Houston and played HS football for a year at Strake before finishing where I started in HS. I learned "yes sir" real quick like. Houston was growing like crazy when I was there. Lots of young people and transplants to make friends with. Plenty to do. Food is great. Weather sucks balls. When I was there 18 was the drinking age and I remember having a few beers in a few joints (with additional entertainment) after a hard days work building elevators for Dover in the summer swamp

When I moved to Poulsbo, WA, I did so because of the mess that L.A. is. Poulsbo is surrounded by water and forest and yet it is a 30 minute ferry ride to Seattle. Probably the most beautiful commute in the world. The first time I went back to L.A. (and S.F.) I couldn't wait to get back to WA. L.A. was just too ugly and dirty. In Poulsbo I knew my neighbors and we are still good friends. However, the winters are horrible and that drove me to Houston. I know my neighbors here and we get together for whatever and it's nice. Yes, it's hot and humid, but the thunderstorms are amazing and they cool things down. Everything that L.A. and S.F. and Seattle have, Houston has and maybe better. Football is huge here and (sadly) it makes football in CA child's play. I do like L.A. as I said before, but it's expensive all the way around. We have a gorgeous house here in Houston that would cost millions in CA. Everything is so much cheaper here. I'll go back to CA for football, perhaps The Big Game. You've got to wonder about the movement of people from CA to Texas. CA has lost congressional representation and Texas has gained. All you need to do is come here and see the explosive growth. Man, they're building elementary schools that look like mini college campuses. I like it here. I like CA too, especially the Bay Area. Good luck with the gold out vs Clemson.

Can't blame you for leaving SoCal. I lived in Seattle before it went left-crazy and visited Poulsbo a few times. Good bread! The ferry rides are wonderful although less enjoyable when it rains (which it does a whole lot up there). Seattle is still beautiful on the outside. Got married on Mercer Island.

I visit Texas every two years and you're right about the incredible growth. I've known plenty of Californians who have moved there to escape Sacramento, and all the problems you cited (plus more).

H.S. football in Texas is crazy. There are high schools with nicer football stadiums than some of the college stadiums I've been to. But as a fan, you're lucky to have two SEC teams, and Houston to follow locally.

A&M is a bucket list for me. The corps of cadets!!!!!
