Is it me or do others of you have a hard time understanding Tosh's answers and remarks? I am used to coach speech, but it's really hard to follow what he is actually saying. He could have explained that JKS wasn't cleared till game time and the Jackson was able to practice and implement a game plan for the entire week. I think this is what he was implying, but it certainly wasn't all that clear. And the reporters seemed confused as well.

Communication is one of the key components in coaching and leadership. I am beginning to wonder. with the repeated mistakes and broken coverages, if the coaches are effectively communicating with our players.

I agree, even during the game on those mini interviews, it's hard to tell what he's actually saying.

Begins each sentence with a noun or dependent clause. It's up to us to discern who or what the subject is.

A lot of it is word salad. He really needs to work on that.

Tosh is a terrible communicator with the media and the public. He never speaks in complete sentences, just short clauses. Because of this it is usually hard to understand what he is saying or intends to say. If he communicates this way to his players and coaching staff, it's easy to see why our team is so screwed up.

He is a great recruiter which takes communication skills and was Pac-10 All Academic as a walkon for Cal which takes smarts. He had to impress Ron and the whales with something he said. I agree about his press conferences and "Ball excellence" and "Power of Unit" are not Shakespeare but Tedford was not a great media guy and similarly I wouldn't care about his eloquence if our football team was playing well and winning games.

Different people have different communication styles so I get some of the gripes. But Tosh is pretty clear to me, I was even able to read between the lines at the fiasco this week. Though it even had me doubting. It's more his opacity perhaps, him trying to balance inside the building dynamics which might be needless at times that confuses people. When just some simple transparency in communication might do as the face of an organization. In any case it seemed this week little advantage was gained for a lot of firestorm among fans/donors/media if not recruits and players.

He's always sort of scheming which admittedly might not make for the best media communication but I am fine as well if he can win.

One of these days, he'll get his wires crossed and make broadcasting history:

SALLIE SIDELINE REPORTER: Coach, what do you tell your guys to come back from an 82-0 deficit at the half in front of your home crowd?

CTL: [breathing heavily] BALL POWER! First and foremost... EXTREME UNIT! Riiiight? [nodding]

SALLIE SIDELINE REPORTER: [nodding politely] Right... Thank you, coach. Back to you guys up at the booth.

The more I hear it, the more I can't stand it. An involuntary verbal tic or a weaselly way to manufacture pretend buy-in? Whatever it is, it ain't "right."

It's remarkable that these communication issues would not surface during the interviewing process for the position. You really have to question the vetting process for this hire. Maybe our guys doing the hiring are just not that smart in this area. Emotion over reason.
