From Mike Silver's Yahoo Column:

"...here's what Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers(notes) had to say about Jack Clark's unparalleled program when we reconnected in Atlanta last Sunday: "Cal rugby is the most decorated sport at the university, or any university. I've known guys who I played football with who went on to play rugby, and the experience was second to none. My roommate, Garrett Cross, was a part of the program, and it was really a special thing. I attended many games and saw what it was all about. Cal rugby is a point of personal pride for Cal athletes, and it's very disappointing to see it cut back."

The fund to save all the sport teams is close to $6 million. Need to get up, and past, $10 million. Go to www.savecalbaseball.com. This fund, again, is not just for baseball, but all of the affected teams.

I already made my pledge on that site, and I encourage everyone to do the same. Trust me, if I knew AR I would be on him as well.

"Like a lot of people, I was shocked to read about the fate of Cal Rugby. Those of us who went to school at Berkeley, and especially those of us who were student-athletes, recognize how important and impressive this program was. Rugby at Cal was synonymous with greatness....year after year after year. How many programs can say that?

While most of us who played football didn't get to know Coach Clark well, we all respected the hell out of him. To be honest, there was a time when we all hoped there might be some truth to the rumors that he would coach our football team. His ability to lead was unparalleled. To me, a coach's job is to teach, motivate, and inspire. And to my friends who had the privilege of spending time with him, the Jacob Waasdorp's and Shaun Paga's of the Berkeley world, Coach Clark did exactly that. In the meantime, we'd hear about head coaches of other "revenue" programs throwing their assistants under the bus. I know which type of coach I'd rather play for.

Maybe I'm just naive and maybe spending most of the last 9 years half-way across the country has put me out of touch. But can't we get past all the political bull-**** and recognize what a travesty this is? The university needs to step up and do the right thing here.

And really, is there any other sport on campus that has forced a Stanford squad into pre-competition submission, failing to even show up at Witter field on the day of a match?" - Scott Fujita

Maybe he'll make a commercial with Tim Tebow...
