Hopefully this is of interest to people on this board familiar with Joe Roth's tragic illness. After he died a Joe Roth Melanoma Research fund was established at UCSF (correct me if I'm wrong run2win); I have no idea what has happened to the fund, but certainly all people concerned by this insidious disease, especially when it has metastasized as in Joe's case, must be encouraged by the news of new successful treatment for late stage melanoma.

My father (Cal '42) died of melanoma in 1975. I was very aware of the disease that afflicted Joe Roth. The Joe Roth game is always a special game for our family.
So far I've been lucky not to be similarly afflicted, but I watch for news like a successful treatment. Turns out that my arthritis drug (Celebrex) has been successful against skin cancers. Maybe there is a small benefit to growing old.
