Interesting list. Lots of Cal players.

Also, Donte Stallworth and Rae Carruth? What? No O.J. Simpson?

The eventual Cal players from that list were - #6, 7, 14, 15, 62, 64, 88. There maybe others too.

I also noticed the list was compiled in 2000. It would be hard to keep that Folsom QB off of the list. Tiny as well. There could be an argument that both Worrell and Syd should be included.

I find it extremely difficult to say this but Matt Barnes should be on that list. He scored 17 TDs as a junior and then 28 as a senior. The only comparable WR from the area with that kind of size and hands was T. Parker who is also on the list and went onto star at USC.

It still ticks me off that Fasani with not one but two parents who were Cal grads chose Stanford. We ended up with Sam Clemens.

To put Donte Stallworth down at #16 is too low. He was the best shut down corner I have ever seen in high school and perhaps the way he ruined Barnes was the very reason why the latter didn't make the list. He and O. Smith were lethal.

Tom Relles' size compared to the kids today is laughable but he was a tough nut. I believe he played with Morton (or even before then).

All in all those were great players.

Thanks for posting...that brought back lots of memories. Did I miss Vei Moala & the QB from Folsom now at the Air Force Academy-they won it all & certainly were great players!:gobears:

There could be an argument that both Worrell and Syd should be included. What about Ken OBrien from Jesuit and Davis? What about Eason from Delta and then Davis? What about Ted Albrecht from Dixon and then Cal? Robbie Bosco?

I played against Smith at Cal's Football Camp in 98. He was the most impressive high school athlete Ive ever seen. He shook about 5 defenders and then would run back to run someone over before scoring. He had a good start to his pro career but just didnt have his life in order to keep it going.

I agree with all of that.

I tackled one of the players on that list. When he ran, the way his pads clicked, they made a noise that made him sound like a train.

Great list..I remember growing up in Vacaville as a kid..dad took me to Vacaville HS games..in the 80s VHS was pretty good in football..and Cordova (see Troy Taylor) would come in every year and just wreck those teams. Cordova use to seriously pass the eye test too.
