STs penalty, blocked kick, and his TEs cant catch. And yes I know we are up 28-6.

We are making waaaaaaaay too many mental errors for the 3rd game of the season. I blew it off in the opener, but this looks more like a pattern.

Some of Maynard's ball are off, but there are a ton of drops.

At least we are 5-5 on PATs!

Kick protection is obviously a major issue this year.

through 3 games his units (ST and TE) are the least prepared ones on the team. Then again that's how it's always been under JT.

Seems like the TE's can only catch it if it is throw too high or poorly.....

Sounds ludicrous to say but they are being completely dominated by Presbyterian's special teams in every way.

The punt block had nothing to do with coaching. Watch a replay and you'll see Anthony Miller look at Bethel and then turn back towards the line of scrimmage rather than blocking Bethel. Bethel wnet on to get the block.

That punt block was 100% Miller's mistake. If he blocks Bethel as he is supposed to, Anger gets the punt off clean.

Disagree. If this was a one off, I'd buy that excuse. But we are seeing a pattern of terrible mistakes on ST. This is on the coaches for not preparing the players well enough on special teams.

I don't get a replay, but Miller probably lets him go on purpose and goes down to cover. We give a freerun to the personal protectors. The line gives ole blocks.

For as much crap as Alamar took as a special teams coach, I never remember us looking this bad. And Alamar could coach TE's. Think about it...Garret Cross, Craig Stevens, Cameron Morrah....Now we can't punt, can't kick PAT's and our TE's can't catch. Bring back Alamar.

Why do the Bears ST's let D-IAA teams block their punts?

Just because we have the worst ST coach in the history of NCAA football does not give a proper excuse to bring back the second worst ST coach in the history of NCAA football.

We can do better, this is like arguing over whether we want Holmoe or Gilbertson.

Alamar's coverage teams were much, much worse.

Ouch. Truth hurts. At least Tedford didn't ice our own kicker like the Missouri coach did against ASU.

While I agree there is a consistent problem, the replay on the block clearly showed it was a player mistake. He looks at the defender and just let's him go until it's too late.

Not only have we had a kick or a punt blocked in every game this year, what the heck is wrong with Tavecchio? On one kickoff he got the ball to about the 5 but the rest were REALLY short. Was that on purpose? I sure hope so because if that's the best he can do we are going to lose alot of games giving the other team a start anywhere between the 30 and the 50...

I must admit I was pretty mystified by the place kicking. Tavecchio kicked off 10 times in the game. I didn't keep exact count, but the last four or five were squib kicks. Was this on purpose? I could see doing this for practice once or twice, but I just can't believe there would be any upside to doing this over and over again. If it wasn't intentional, then I am just generally horrified. On the bright side he went 9 for 9 on extra points, which ordinarily wouldn't be cause for celebration, but in this case seems like it is. Very weird day on special teams.

I believe the wind became a factor on the kickoffs, especially when Cal was kicking off from the infield. Williams kept having to come over and hold the ball as it was being blown off the tee. Tavecchio appeared to be using a low driving kick to compensate for the wind. It has the advantage of not being as affected by the wind and much mroe likely to have good distance, but you do sacrifice hangtime, and this kind of kick rarely reaches the end zone.

We should be prepared to see similar kickoffs all season.

What didn't you like about Bigelows kickoff return. Come on there's got to be something. He wasn't touched by a PC player. Can't complain about lousey blocking.

If a tightend drops the ball how is that the coaches fault?

You people arn't CAL fans, you're CAL complainers. Get your freakin head out of your A$$. You want perfection watch the 49ers & Raiders!

Disagree. The blocking has been sore point since the season started and it should be second nature by now for the blockers to at least block. You can ring up 3 of the 4 blocks on PAT's and punts to very poor blocking. Yesterday, they seem to be running an unbalanced line on PAT's with both wing blockers lining up on the left side of the line. Not sure why they were doing this, but the defender on the left edge of the defensive line was getting an unblocked, straight shot at the PAT's and was barely missing. I hate the rugby kicks, and the allowing the interior line defenders an unblocked run at the up blockers is just playing with fire when those rushers are pushing the up blockers back right into Anger. This is the ST coach's scheme and his coaching you are seeing on the field.

Horrified, I tell you! You're kidding, right? It's called "kicking off the dirt". His plant foot slipped at least 3 times on kickoffs and he implied during their practice on the field a month ago that kicking from the dirt was going to be a real challenge because of how slippery it is. It doesn't appear that the Giants will make the post-season barring some miracle, so the field should be sodded by the next game. See if it's a problem then, and then you can be "horrified".

If memory serves, Miller did exactly the same thing last year and with the same result. Throws out a lackadaisical shoulder pad, barely glances the rusher and BOOMa blocked punt.

I'd be up inside his friggin' facemask if I was ST honcho...
