Dear Tosh,

Yours is not an uncommon story throughout the decades for Cal Football.
In the seventies, following a Pac 8 co-championship, OC Paul Hacket was stolen away by $c in the exact same way, money & greater chance of whatever. Hacket was possibly the hottest young coach in the US, grew up in Berkeley. He went on to coach Joe Montana & others in the NFL; HC positions at $c and the NFL. Finally it caught up & I believe he choked on it all. Others stories: Hue Jackson left Cal for So Cal; Steve Mariucci and others.

Tosh, watch your back with your co-workers at WA. You're 30 and they're older and wont look at you as one of them.

Congratulations Tosh--you are a complete a$$hole; good riddance. Hope you get stabbed in the back many times by your new associates at UW.

and we will miss his recruiting abilities more than his coaching skills..Let him go...just look around at the other schools losing good assistants..UW won't be his last post just like all the other Cal assistants who have left have bounced around..We will survive this.

Zachahuy says we should show some class and congratulate Tosh Lupoi. Congratulate him for what? Per Shaq to ESPN, Lupoi sat in his living room last week and on a "Cal" recruiting visit and told Shaq he was thinking of going to Wahington and would Shaq be intersted in joining him. Should we congratulate him for that? I think not! Should we congratulate him because he has scheduled an in home recruiting visit with Shaq on behalf of UW this week? Are you kidding me? I think besides a big fat lack of loyalty to his alma mater and the fact that he sold his soul for a boat and a car you have to ask what kind of credibility this guy has and does he ever deserve any respect. At 30, Zachahuy, greed is still greed and that boat will soon lose its luster if they don't produce a Rose Bowl or BCS championship soon, they will all be broomed out of there and Tosh Lupoi will be left with the same empty feeling he left some of these 18 year great young Cal recruits.

Stay the course Cal gang. Cal is great school with great football players, great coaches, great facilities and great fans. See you on the field and GO Bears!

I thought that is pretty normal. Have you ever have a high manager position offer? One of the few things you do after you accept the offer is to talk your best staff person to come with you.

Also, timing of this is what got Tosh such high pay.

Get a clue. This is much more analogous to trying to steal customers while still employed. In most cases, perhaps all, that would subject the perp to civil liability. And it's a douche move to boot. Apologist much?

He is 29 and could have been making $300,000 a year working for Cal football--with a great future, most of us would kill for that, most of the many other DLs who have played for Cal and were not good enough for the NFL would kill for that.

There is a right way and a slimy way of doing things.

The right way for Tosh to move on would be to take the Washington job AFTER LOI and not betray the hard work that the entire recruiting TEAM put into getting a player to commit to Cal.

Lupoi should know that by securing an amazing class for Cal the offers would come pouring in. Very likely MUCH better offers than UW.

And if UW wanted his services that badly, then they would respect his desire to do things the RIGHT way....after LOI. After all, if UW thinks that he's that good of a recruiter, then logic would imply that next year he'd be able to pull in an equivalent huge class for UW and merit the salary they're paying him.

If UW manipulated an exploding 2 weeks before LOI offer, then Tosh should know he's being unfairly used as an mercenary against the friendships and good will he's forged over the years at Cal. At this point, he won't be able ever to show his face in Berkeley. He basically scorched earth his good will at Berkeley.

If Lupoi sees people's anger and still has no serious guilt over the way he engineered his departure, then the guy seriously lacks an honorable moral compass and it will ultimately come to bite him in the ass at some point in his career. The coaching world is small after all. To his detriment, people now know what he's all about and will be treated accordingly. It is what it is.

I feel for your generation if they are all like you. You will end up an empty, sad, old man if money is your true idol in life.....particularly at the expense of your integrity.
Tosh "Benedict Arnold" Lupoi lied repeatedly to our recruits before bolting to Washington in as sneaky and classless way as possible.....and began to immediately poach our recruits. I have no problem with the original list on this thread.....none of them lied to us before departing. I have no problem with someone earning a good wage, but before you excuse him, just remember how he left. I sincerely wonder how Lupoi will sell Washington to recruits. He certainly won't use honesty, integrity, and honor---
he has none.
