My experience has been that subordinate employees are either contacted by recruiters or are out there quietly submitting their resumes. Then, when a job offer actually comes, they discuss it with family and friends to mull it over. Finally, if they are serious about it, they talk to their boss about the offer - either in hopes of getting a matching (save) salary or simply to say goodbye.

I can't imagine that UW was negotiating to Tosh and Kiesau separately. I'm sure those two had talks amongst themselves about going to UW together. Was it part of coordinated package? Did they conspire in the path to riches together? When did Tedford become aware in each case?

I know there were rumors of Tosh getting an offer from UW a while ago, and so surely Tedford knew about this. But what about Kiesau? From the outsiders viewpoint, it comes as a complete 1-day shock, but I know it surely had to be considered a long time ago between Kiesau and UW.

I would hope that Tedford, as captain of the ship, was on top of this trying to save a long time ago. Same goes for Sandy. Perhaps everyone realized the cake was baked with the salary differentials and that was that. If they didn't know about Kiesau, then they are not managing things very well. If they didn't know about Kiesau, then maybe Lupoi orchestrated the whole thing with Sark behind Tedford's back. That's dangerous from a Tedford perspective because it kind of would show who the top deal-making dog really is.
