Thank you Okaydo. I like your posts but Meh...let me know when Tedford actually says something different AND implements it accordingly.

So basically, Tedford press conferences should be ignored unless the team is an undefeated killing machine or he says a player sucks. Got it.

You know...two Tedford supporters here actually.

Don't you dare call me a Tedford supporter! Damn you!
But seriously, I'm probably more aligned with your thinking than the pumpers.
Sigh.

I meant meant me as a Tedford supporter. I know you are/were too Okaydo. fUCLA and USC this past year sent me into uncharted territory. I hate the negas but am sick of losing and see nothing so far as an alternative. Realist Bear? Pragmatic Bear? OptiBear? Pshaw....I don't have an identity anymore except a Bear avatar holding a roll of TP for all the bullsh*t said and that I post here....

No, that's not it.
Tedford's praise for Kline was too general. He didn't mention accuracy, rapport with receivers, going through his progressions, learning playbooks, etc. He also didn't mention anything regarding if Kline had any tools that other QBs didn't, which would have implied we would have potential to rise above what we already are.
THAT'S why his praise of Kline seems rather hard to take seriously, and that's why his praise doesn't give us any additional hope.
We don't have to be undefeated and he doesn't have to say a player sucks. He needs to give more analytic details if he wants us to take his praise of Kline seriously.

Praising a kid that still should be finishing up high school is tough. Everyone (just read this board) asks about Kline and if his feet get wet when he walks on water - Tedford is cliche because that is the way to answer the innane questions, and deflect attention to the kid as he learns how to play college football. He is not going to play this year and shouldn't. Ask about the strides Bridgford is making instead - He will contribute this season!

I started calling for Tedford's head once we lost to UCLA. That was the most embarrassing lost of the season without a doubt...

Yes, when they ask stupid general questions like how was practice coach? you get coach speak. When they ask specific questions about who has stood out this spring, he tells you. I really don't know what information you are looking to get that you could realistically expect that he did not give you.

+ infinity. And for all the talk about "he doesn't show enough emotion," anyone who thinks that really has no clue about what his personality is like. Ask a player (more likely a former player) and you'll find out that he is a damned sailor and shows plenty of emotion when you screw up - like 98% of the coaches I have ever worked with. Then there's the other side of the coin, Holmoe: Bless his heart - he cried one day giving a post-practice speech to the team.

1. It's a two way conversation. With respect to Kline, he was basically asked about how he was adjusting to college, how he relates to the other players, and how he was picking up the offense. So those were the answers you got. He praised his leadership, knowledge, sense of humor, said he works with the players well and has confidence. Funny thing is you say you want him to comment about him learning the playbook - he was asked and he answered that Kline is picking up the offense as fast as any freshman we've ever had. I don't think there was a lot of substance there, nor do I think that was likely after a few practices, but you can't blame him for answering the questions he was asked instead of the one's you wish he was asked. For instance, if you watch when he was asked about Bridgford, the questions directed him more in your area, and he had high praise specifically for his accuracy and said he was healthy now.
2. If you actually watch the press conference, there was a lot of good info there. I really don't know what it is you guys want a coach to say - he's answering questions about spring practice. You would find out that the DLine has stood out. Richard Rodgers has looked really good. Jason Gibson was singled out as playing well, and he has moved inside. Also mentioned Forbes on the inside, and said we've moved Wilkerson there, but he's been hurt. Sebastian had a good practice after being nicked up much of the time. The pass protection has apparently been terrible as we've tried to rotate guys in. Maurice Harris has the best hands on the team and a really good frame. Our WR situation won't be settled til late fall. Clay isn't coming back. CDJ is transferring. That's off the top of my head - go watch yourself.

I would like to see some different quotes for once and to see some real emotion from the coach on a blue chip learning the system. Having a good sense of humor is great but how about "the kid has a rifle as an arm...I think he will take some records at Cal from what I've seen." Would that be such a terrible thing to say for the fan base?
