Took down the thread because of the sensitive nature of the title and subject matter.

Seems that there's another Darius Powe from sacto area that was involved.

I'm glad our Darius Powe was not involved and hope his namesake from the Sacramento area is all right.

Yup. Thank you MB, good work in getting out the news.

A stupid, thoughtless original post..and I don't think I have ever felt so strongly about anything on this board before. Why on earth would you print this twitter hearsay without any kind of monitor?

The driver involved in the accident in Davis Friday night was a 21 year old, Darius Powe-Reed: http://davis.news10.net/

Talked to Powe today. He's fired up to hit the field this season.

That is a bit harsh considering Guss Armstead tweeted something along the lines of RIP Darius Powe. Guss would never say something like that without confirmation. What are the chances his kid would have played with another kid named Darius Powe? I think everyone handled it with caution and the thread was pulled within minutes.

when the most timely news about the Arab Spring protests came via Twitter there were people who predicted the death of big media, seeing a future of crowdsourced coverage via Twitter. Sheer idiocy, as an idea and a prediction, IMHO.

Reminds me of Fox rushing to report that the Affordable Care Act was ruled unconstitutional.

yes, that's for sure the first time "hearsay" was posted on this board...this must have been the first time the "monitor" missed it....
If it was from Armistead out of Sacto, then it might have also raised a question or two (or twenty)seeing the future Cal Bear of the same name is from SoCal...
And now the sarcasm aside-the monitoring did work: it got posted and taken down..end of story...

Some posters just have this insane desire to "be first". We saw this all the time with recruiting where one random tweet gets spread all over the talk boards with posters rabidly debating what the tweet means. The worst was someone who talked to a recruit and rushed over to the boards to announce that he had committed to the Bears even though the coaches didn't even know. Good thing MB has discretion even if others can't help themselves with their juicy bit of what amounts to schoolgirl gossip.

CNN also whiffed. It and Fox were simply in too much of a hurry to be first to get the facts right.

Yeah, why do I feel that Gus is not our best friend?

There were disparaging comments about JT around his son's commitment to the curs - just say'ng...............
