Truthfully though, I hate every school in the PAC 12 except Cal.

Not sure why people feel compelled to end with some sort of "we'll be fine" phrase at the end of news like this. What does that mean? In the large scheme of things, yes, the sun will come up tomorrow and life goes on, football is no big deal. As far as our gridiron fortunes are concerned, I've seen little the last few years to convince me that
"we'll be fine." I don't think we are fine now. I hope we turn this around.
Sorry, don't mean to nit-pick on language, but I just can't help wondering, as our
program continues to slip farther down in the Pac-12, what exactly does "we'll be fine"
really mean? Go Bears!

Uhh....this is my take on the phrase "we'll be fine"......right now here is the current Yahoo Sports recruiting rankings for the Pac 12 based on player stars recruited so far:
1. USC
2. Washington
3. Arizona
4. Oregon
5. UCLA
6. Stanford
7. Colorado
8. Washington State
9. Arizona State
10. California
Tied for 12th Utah and Oregon State
From the above, Cal ain't doin' too good at this time. So, "we'll be fine" means, and I'm only conjecturing here, of course, by LOI day Cal may go from tenth to maybe seventh?..er...okay....maybe even sixth...wow!
I, however, am not too sure that Cal "will be fine"...recruiting seems to be connected to coaching, particularly headcoaching. In UDub's case, maybe the recruiting fortunes are related to assistant coaches? In any event, UDub's recent recruitng haul has something to do with the appearance of trending program vibrance due to whatever reason more than the number of stars per player (which ain't shabby by Cal's standards)...but whatever the reason, Cal is increasingly demonstrating that it may not have such......this is what's scarey to me or at least disheartening......
I don't think Tedford (and his present staff) is capable of affecting a reversal of the above trend. I'm not saying Cal won't regain such, if it ever has recently had such, where maybe someone like Kline can garner increased vibrance (to the young) in Cal football with future wins...
Oh, Cal won't be too bad next season. Cal has players, but fair or not, Maynard consistently
throwing to his brother for his NFL career ain't going to cut it for Cal's future fortunes.........sigh.........

I can see that. DLS never struck me (or my son) as an academic powerhouse. Sports seemed as important as school. Just sayin'. I didn't have a big problem with this, btw.

darby, did you know that your repetitive posts sound like the whinings of an uniformed little bitch?
you mention 4 players that got away:
tatum-accused of a rape assault and transfered
schweiger-never played as sc and transfered to sjs and had no impact there either
davis-has never played a down of college football and newby is considered a better prospect
hutching-has never played adown of college football and dls lb teammate barton is considered a better prospect
pretty sure javid and marshawn are the best bay area prospects for the last decade...would you disgagree with that?
go trojans!

Exactly. IMHO, the school seems like a Mater Dei north with average academics which may explain the kids' interest in the UO's, AZ, and Suc's of the world. Back in the 80's and 90's, a lot of bright kids commuted to Servite if they were in the OC.....and didn't have the luck of being able to attend a free public school that was the caliber of a Corona del Mar, University high, Woodbridge, or Troy. Meanwhile, a lot of cerebral types like Leinart went to Mater Dei. I have a son who is on track to be 6'4-6'5 220-230 by the time he is in HS and I am exploring private schools with respectable athletics if I decide to not send him to Berkeley High. So far, there are not a lot of recommendations for DLS but I get Head Royce mentioned quite a bit by the Cal/Furd alum parents that I know. If this perception is way off base with regards to DLS please chime in fellow ursine.

If your kid wants to excel in academics he can at DLS. If your kid is an average student they will support him. My son fell into the later category. He loved going to DLS and he was neither a great student nor a great athlete. With that said, there are some sports at DLS that are brutal with regards to time requirements and that will be hard on your son unless he is a very gifted student.

Thanks for your gracious and honest reply. My son is gifted but I am afraid he will slack if he is not surrounded by academic go getters. I was a football player in the honors program at Servite (with a lot of studious nerdy types) but would have surfed all morning and slacked off if I went to Newport Harbor. I feel that my son may have inherited that from me. However, he has some potential in FB and BB and I would love to find a solid mix of athletics and an academic environment that will surround him with talent as well. Berkeley high is a world away from what I experienced and my son is a little anxious about it as well.

WOW. You are the uniformed little bitch. 1. Hutchings is rated higher than barton.
2. Davis is a higher rated prospect than newby.
You got some great players, ok. If you're going to talk at least know what you're talking about.
