Many old actors passing lately....many remember him from McHale's Navy but Ernest was in many many movies both starring and as a character actor...I've seen a couple of specials on him and he truly was one of the nice guys in Hollywood...that gap toothed smile was always beaming....R.I.P to another childhood friend gone but not forgotten......I honestly will miss this guy more than most. He received an Oscar for Marty and was in a movie almost every year from 1951-2011.

His first big break was in "From Here to Eternity".....play alongside such heavyweights as Burt Lancaster, Montgomery Clift. Deborah Kerr and Donna Reed.....he even beat up Frank Sinatra.....

....and he didn't go blind...but he did wear glasses. You don't expect a guy with a stout build like his to live that long. His body must have been comfortable packing the extra lbs.

Kids today will know him as the voice of Mermaid Man on Spongebob Squarepants. His sidekick, Barnacle Boy was voiced by Tim Conway.

Lots of old school actors doing voice work these days: Adam West, Ed Asner, Mel Brooks, just to name a few more.

What a rich and long career!
