Don't forget DeSean Jackson and Nnamdi Asomugha also playing in the first quarter. Four Cal Bears out the first 44 playing for both teams. Not bad for The University of California at Berkeley.

Shane, really looking good in the early going.
While watching, it is a little scary to see the Pats offense move so efficiently
against Philly's D with Vereen and a rookie QB running the show.

Was checking out http://boards.philadelphiaeagles.com/topic/647205-preseason-week-2-gdt-at-new-england/ and saw lots of positive comments on Kendricks:
Quote:

Good job ny Kendricks

Nice play by Kendricks

[next series]

kendricks is a STUD

Nice job, Kendricks.

Kendricks!

KENDRICKS IS A STUD@@!!@@!@!@!

Judging by the comments kendricks is doing good? wish i could be watching

Kendricks is a player.

[Side note: A guy asks: Is that Ben Vereen's grandson?]

Anyway, at this point Vick got popped and I gave up reading the thread. At this point with ~7 minutes left in the game Kendricks is credited with 6 tackles, 3 solo, 1 TFL. Good stuff!

Didn't get to watch the game. Sounds like Vareen played well. Is he in line to start this season?

First of all, it was amazing that Desean could get behind the DBs even in that situation. The throw was about 5 yards short of the target or Desean would have had the TD. The most impressive thing about that play is that if you watch the pick, Jackson is not only 10 yards behind the play as the DB starts running away, but he's also still running toward the back of the endzone where he then loops all the way around the back of the endzone. Then, he only chases him down, but is completely in front of the play, evades a block, and tackles him from ahead.

Other game notes for Cal:

- Desean was, once again, uncoverable all game. On another play, Desean had to wait for the ball and jump up in the air to pull it down because the DB had time to catch up and possibly get the INT.
- Michael Kendricks dominated the telecast. Not only did he have all those stats in about half a game, but he disrupted many other plays leading to tackles by other players. Never seen a Cal defensive player get called out so much during an NFL game. Simply amazing.
- Vereen couldn't get much going except for the screen plays. Yes, he had a run of something like 6 yards, but I think he averaged around 2 yards per carry. Blocking was not good, so he had to make his yards by breaking tackles. And of course the announcers made the typical assessment that he's a "situational" player. I don't think he is. He runs too hard to be "situational".
- Nmamdi had a bad holding penalty costing the team a series-ending sack. But also had a couple good pass breakups. The Eagles D looks much better. Penalties killed them tonight costing them several good plays including two turnovers.

That was not DeSean who the pass was intended for. I believe that was Maclin. DeSean begins the play at the bottom of the screen. If DeSean was the intended receiver and made that tackle, he'd be faster than Usain Bolt.

Correct; 18 and 10 are hard to differentiate sometimes due to compressed video but in the replay from the opposite endzone you can clearly see that the intended receiver was Maclin.

18=Maclin.

just by looking at the video, it would be very unlikely the pass would be for DeSean in the first place since it was thrown the the left side of the field, and DeSean clearly comes in straight from the right side.

But yes, as others have pointed out, it's Maclin who the pass is intended for

You know, someone needs to change numbers or fix their fonts. I always screw those two up. Ignore what I just said and I'll just commend him for the effort on the tackle.
