I'm by no means an expert on this topic, but from what I can tell looking around the internet there still seems to be a strong sentiment that a DirecTV/Pac12 agreement is coming.
1) Apparently there is a web site that is updated every Wednesday that details channels that DirecTV is testing for upcoming release. Typically, the test is considered a one-week notice of a new channel coming online. Some were expecting signs of a test this past Wednesday, which would have signaled the deal being all but completed, but alas no test was scheduled. Others are saying that the channel could be activated immediately without such a test and not to read too much into it.
2) Wilner tweeted that an agreement was imminent based on his source with the Pac12 Network. He was less specific regarding a timeline. Some are questioning the promise behind such a Pac12 Network source - what would you expect them to say? It is clear from the chatter online that DirecTV is getting a ear full about not having the channel, which bodes well for an agreement.
3) Rumor has it that the DirecTV Pac12 package might cost as much as $14.99, which would include not only the national channel, but each regional feed. This would be a good deal for out-of-network audience, since you could effectively get any regional event you wanted at the time it is played.
4) September 21st is apparently some sort of magic date that people have been mentioning as the absolute latest date at which an agreement will be signed this year. If nothing happens before then, one could expect that the DirecTV part of the deal may not happen until next season. I guess the contracts revolve around football and other year around sports would not represent value for locking in a contract.
I'm in one of the two major markets outside of the Pac12 footprint that will not get the network through one of the providers already onboard, so DirecTV is my last hope. I'm hoping that when DirecTV drops, so will all the cable providers.
