What's a good Stanfurd forum?

How come there isn't, as far as I can tell, a really active Stanford football forum?

I went to the Bootboard, and there is not a single thread about the Big Game with less than 48 hours to go. (The Stanford/Cal tickets thread doesn't count.)

http://mbd.scout.com/mb.aspx?S=18&F=1712

The Card Board does have a somewhat active community, but still there are only a few posts about the Big Game -- nothing even close to rivaling our community.

http://thecardboard.org/board/

And finally, Rule of Tree -- which is Stanfurd's CGB -- has just a handful of comments on its Big Game threads.

Am I missing any more?

I've looked myself and haven't found anything.

It's not an exaggeration. They really only have a couple of dozen fans. The rest who go to the games and wander into the stadium in the 2nd quarter are there just for the tailgate. Imagine if they didn't have huge tailgating areas. They would rival Miami for empty stadiums.

I've posted on Cardboard from time to time as Lurck42, appreciated (some of) the banter. You gonna call me a furd too? Oh-kay, whatevs LF, but please give me the other five or so you've noticed.

GaryT? Naaw, he don't post there (hardly evah).

[very late add, sorry] Stanf*rdObserver bailed. Cajun/Stanf*rdDebate got blown away [hyuck] about the time of Katrina. BeteRouge has posted both places different ways, can't remember his last appearance here though; he's a tad too aggressive here imo. Calumnus from time to time shares a contrary opinion for sh*ts and giggles, as does cybears' exile 71Bear. Honest (not an) injun, I forget the rest.

Bears could do much worse than lurck Cardb*ard BBS, offered just in this fool's secular opinion:

I agree, GaryT just posts here socially.

That's my six (6). I always have hated when trolls try to emulate a team's board by using that team's mascot in their screen names. I much prefer traditional trolling ala bow down, ducktildeath, 1BigTroyFan etc. I usually don't agree with them but at least they man up with their selected screen names...I'll always attack them but they have a measure of respect.

When the Big Game is followed by four other games, it's pretty obvious that money and television have destroyed college football traditions. Money poisons everything in America. It's very hard to care anymore.

But none those guys remotely match up stylistically with the dark side posters I've monitored, um, since the 90s.

Spill the beans Sini...I'm no watch dog's fool but I agree, many an overnight poster has been observed here. From New Bear to Real Bear in a week or a month. Ruling out posters who have been banned (the curse of obsessive posting?) and their new screen handles, that leaves the trolls...Give us some stats with our porridge puhlease...

The Cardboard is my go-to Stanford bulletin board, and I rarely post there because I lack unique insights that stand up to scrutiny. That site is where I find the best coverage and analysis of Stanford Women's Soccer, Hoops, and Volleyball, courtesy of VikingGuy.
I post here more frequently because, frankly, you folks pay better.

I have been following Stanford football for 20 years and there is no forum that rivals this site in size. The scout and cardboard are the two forums I am aware of where people discuss Stanford sports, primarily football. I don't pay for scout so I post on Cardboard from time to time.

You have to remember we have maybe 1,600 graduates a year and many folks that go to Stanford are apathetic when it comes to Stanford sports. My friends from college still follow it closely. Interest in Stanford sports probably peaked the last few years coinciding with Andrew Luck. The Orange Bowl in particular drew tons of Stanford fans. If this year is a trend of what is to come, I can see interest falling back down again. Not just because we are an average team but we are playing boring and uninspired football for significant stretches of this season.

I will say that this is one of the most bizarre aspects of our rivalry. We essentially have a counterparty that doesn't exist - it is a fine academic institution, but show me one other team in the history of college football with back to back BCS bowls (or the equivalent) and essentially no fans. I know people who used to play football for Stanford and even they don't really follow the team, for Pete's sake!

Some of it is clearly the smaller class sizes, but that alone doesn't really explain this phenomenon. If the Blue Hose (or an FBS equivalent) had the success Stanford has enjoyed I'm pretty sure they'd at least be filling a message board. Is it tough to jump on the bandwagon of a school that once seriously considered "Robber Barons" as a mascot? Is it the fact that they have a band that behaves like Hunter S. Thompson on a bad trip, knows one song and where half of the band members can't play a note? Is it the fact that the campus looks like a Taco Bell? Is it that God-awful drunken tree? So many questions - so few answers.

of Palo Alto, CA occurred at the Fiesta Bowl last year. The Cardboard insider has some participation (more than other site). The public board was dominated by some dentist who had a cup of coffee in the NFL and therefore felt entitled to bully everyone. As a result, the discussions moved to the insider board. The Cardboard offers decent content as well. Card '97's summary is dead on.

The "Thunderdome" forum on the Bootleg is amusing, and even somewhat redeeming. There at least you can find Furd fans who care. They have several Big Game threads going, along with overt swipes on their blueblood counterparts on the premium board.

The only mistake these guys made was attending the wrong school. Tells you all you need to know about their fan base that posters with passion are treated like disobedient children and confined to the internet analog of a correctional facility.
