How maddening would that be? I really believe USC will beat them, so after our 3rd or 4th team knocks them off their reward is the Pac-12 Rose Bowl berth?

That would really be more insulting than TexAss taking Cal's spot. However, thank goodness it could be the Furdies (or UCLA or OSU) that get jobbed on this one and not us!

If things stay put with the SEC locked out of the NCG, the SEC champ would play in the sugar bowl and the SEC #2 could also be VERY attractive to the Rose Bowl. Would that offend you even more? I said this in another thread, but to me it looks like Stanford could be the p12 team closest to an at large bid to the Rose Bowl, and they would have three losses (if they have 2, they will have won vs oregon and won the p12 north).... as much as I hate the SEC and Notre Dame, I would rather have them in the Rose than furd. A three loss team from a power conference is often in the top 14 in the BCS standings making them eligible, but in some years it doesn't happen.

I guess UCLA has an outside shots of being an at large, but I don't see either of them doing it. They would have to win out, but lose the CCG and again be top 14 in the BCS, which would be harder for them than Stanford. OSU would have beat Oregon to have any shot, but they'd have to win the conference because I don't see how an at large would happen.

The Rose Bowl is not going to have a great match up since the Big 10 stinks. Big 10 rep is most likely Nebraska or Wisconsin, both of which have already lost to Pac teams. ND or an SEC team would bring a lot more to Pasadena than Stanford.

The fact that the second, third or fourth best team in the Pac 12 (U$C) should probably beat the Irish tells the whole story. If you saw the Stanfurd game (won twice by the the 'furds, given away twice by the refs), and then the phantom PI call that brought them back from a 14 point deficit in the fourth Q with Pittsburgh (yes Pittsburgh), for another OT win....Mystery of South Bend----God pulls strings with refs. ND is not that good compared to the top 5 or 10. They will be exposed, but what is considered a lesser team.

If Oregon goes to the NCG, I believe Stanford has the best shot at the Rose Bowl from the Pac-12.

So, yes, I would be fine with them picking ND.

True, but how much pride does the Rose have in the b12/p12 matchup? in 2007 they lost tOSU to the NCG and passed up #6 Mizzou, #8 Kansas, #9 West Virginia, #10 Hawaii to get #13 Illinois. Though none of those schools have nearly the same cache as the SEC names out there or ND. Forget conference pride, I'd love to see stanford get jumped. They might be the only school in the Pac I'd say that for.

I don't know....I one of those that hate ND and USC more than the Furd and those guys from the SEC even more....if the SEC played in the Rose Bowl, it would take months to clean the stench out. No way I want to see those guy playing there.....much rather see Furd no matter the displeasure in it. Maybe it helps get us a decent coach pronto seeing those yahoos in it.

No, that scenario only occurs if ND beats USC (which most are predicting at this point...Notre Dame looks really good right now). If Notre Dame loses to USC, all bets are off.

If Oregon ends up in the NCG (meaning it wins out), then I am doubtful the Pac-12 gets a Rose Bowl berth simply because our #2 and#3 BCS ranked teams (Stanford and Oregon State) would have almost no chance of staying in the top 14 after losses to Oregon.

UCLA at 17 and USC at 18 could move up into the top-14 in the regular season if either wins their next two games - but again, if Oregon makes it to the NCG, that would mean UCLA lost to them in the Pac-12 Championship Game.

USC could make a nice move up if it won it's next 2 games (beating #17 UCLA and #3 ND) - but losing to Oregon in the Pac-12 Championship game would saddle them with 4 losses and probably out of the RB running.

Realistically (short of a ton of teams losing ahead of the Pac-12 congregation between 11-18), the best chance for the Pac-12 getting 2 BCS games is for either USC or UCLA to beat Oregon in the Pac-12 Championship Game.

Then the South school gets the Rose Bowl bid - and Oregon, probably still in the top 8, might be an attractive At-Large team - maybe against an SEC team.

ND at 11-1 is still a BCS team. If SEC #2 goes to Fiesta, there aren't that many attractive choices out there, especially if Stanford or UCLA don't even get to #14. ND at 11-1 is more attractive than any Big East team, the ACC #2 or Big 12 #2....

I agree ND is still BCS-bound, but the question is whether the Rose Bowl, if they have first pick, will go for an 11-1 Notre Dame that lost to USC or a 3-loss Stanford or UCLA (obviously if either drop out of the top-14 this is a non-issue as well, but in that case it's not much of a controversy either).

True, but ESPN already slobbers both their knobs... while it's fun to see SEC and ND fail, Stanford getting to the Rose Bowl means a lot more 'local' pain for Cal fans (but not for other p12 fans or the national audience).

But sure, maybe it helps the coaching process along.
