Teams with more wins from poor conferences are overvalued in the polls and in the definitely computers IMO. Just because a team like Boise can beat an OU every now and then doesn't mean that other non AQ teams have a claim to the BCS as being good enough. They do absolutely have a claim because the rules were agreed upon by all BCS and noon BCS conferences.
The BCS isn't about having the 10 best teams play. It's about money. How many times has a school been picked not because they are the 'best' team out there left, but because they would bring the most fans? It happens all the time, so let's not delude ourselves thinking it's only about the best teams. Now in this case it's not fan appeal that makes the matchup, but a rule that was agreed to by all teams. Not even nearly as offensive to me as forcing TCU down the Rose Bowl's throat.
Furthermore, Oklahoma of all teams has ABSOLUTELY ZERO right to question the system. They are NOT even a top 10 team in the BCS standings. In fact, 4 SEC teams are rated higher and are not going to a BCS game either. Why? Another rule agree to by all teams - no more than 2 from a conference. So STFU, OU and Big 12. You can't selectively pick and choose the rules (that you agreed to) to benefit yourself at the expense of others.
As for the system - I think it's fine to include some 'lesser' champions to keep national interest up. OK it's *slightly* different with the wild card, but the NFL lets in division winners with far worse records than others. Just the way it is. In the past few years there have been a few AFC and NFC West teams that have 8-8 or even under 500 records. But it does help the game NOT to exclude these teams as it keeps different regions interested in the league and in watching TV. Same should be true with college football... keep everyone interested in it, and while rewarding the great teams (w/ better schedules), also have some inclusiveness.
How much inclusiveness is up for debate and the NIU inclusions is pushing it. But I'd say the problem is the Big East AQ status, not the inclusion of NIU itself. The new system in 2014 addresses this by guaranteeing one team from the group of remaining conferences, which the big east is rightly demoted to.
The CCG Big Ten issue is rather strange and unique, but I think you have to let it slide since the BT has a contract with the Rose Bowl. If people think that Wisky going to a BCS bowl is BS, that's a argument against all CCGs. I would have been fine with no CCG's myself - actually would have liked it more - but it's too late. If there is no automatic reward for a CCG (like the Rose), what's the point?
Finally, the Orange Bowl is going to be a disaster. they said on TV that NIU averages less than $16k per game and home, but needs to sell 17.5k tickets for the game @ face value. wow. Anyone near Miami want free tickets? Even worse is that the NCG game is played there this year, so even less will care.
