I don't know what the talk is next year, and I'm not asking the question for any reason of his play tonight, but I went to the Oregon-Cal game and the man can throw, run, and as QB sets the whole offense for Oregon.

pretty sure some posters may have been born pre-1970..which means in their lifetime, a non-LA Pac player won the Heisman. Unfortunately, it was a furd player

Yup....I saw Plunkett play pre-Cal fan days and if anyone deserved it, it was him. He has tons more class then someone like Elway. Pac has come close a few times but damn, the Furd actually came in 2nd place 3 years in a row with Gerhardt, and Luck twice. We're gonna have to UP OUR GAME....

Because they are our hated arch rival. However, I respect them much more than USC and even though in real life, there are many Cal and Furd guys that are friends, spouses and siblings, most Cal posters on BI can't stand them even against opposing conferences. My personal hatred doesn't not extend as far as many here....for personal reasons. I can hate them but still respect them...some here would rather the earth stop spinning on its axis and burn in the fires of hell before they'd root for the Furd even against an SEC team....

Because 114 years ago they took an axe and chopped up a Cal student into little pieces (in effigy) with it thinking it would somehow rally their shitty baseball team to keep them from losing two games to Cal. It didn't work and we've been pissed off at those pretentious bastards ever since. You would only truly "get" this if you did your undergrad work at Cal but having someone chop you up into little pieces with an axe for fun does tend to **** you off. For a very long time.

I am still amazed by it. It because they think that is what validates them as true Cal fans.

Ask them if Cal had finished its season tied for first place but needed Stanford to win the last game in order for us to go to the Roses would they root for Stanford.

Mariotta can put up some huge numbers running that Oregon offense and those numbers get votes. Plus Oregon has won the right to be on many national TV games. That kind of coverage is important too.

Manzel is only a freshman too so he must be the favorite again.

I hate to say it but if that ND QB has a big game tomorrow night they will give him a lot of preseason hype.

I know this because I pay attention to how the college football media operates in this day and age. This will tell you all you need to know about why a Texas based Big 12 team can have a Heisman winner in this era and Corvallis, OR can not.

If you are worried about what happened over 40 years ago then I'll change my statement to, it will never happen "again" in our lifetimes - but doesn't the 40 years aspect of it kind of prove my point? John Elway, Chuck Muncie, JJ Arrington, Toby Gerhart, Andrew Luck. I'm sure if I spent more than five seconds thinking about it I could come up with more.

I did not really know the reason but you have educated me and now I do desire complete revenge and retribution against those elitist. Raise their taxes some more.

The Axe is not your typical "made up" BS trophy for a college football game. It was an actual weapon used to decapitate us and chop us into pieces. It truly "belongs" locked up safely in a bank vault in Berkeley - not in the hands of those psychotic fools down on the farm.
