Teton Gravity Research Aerial Reel - The Bay Area in 4K

Great stuff, includes the new light installation on the Bay Bridge.

Nice cameo by the Blue & Gold fleet.

As far as it being a 4K video, there are two problems. None of us have 4K TVs to see the detail, and this video on Vimeo is actually 1080p. Vimeo supports a maximum res of 1080p. I wonder if there are any online video hosts that actually support 4K.

A quick search reveals that a Sony 30" 4K monitor will soon be available for just $31,680 . You can pre-order it at B&H.

Yeah few people have a 4k monitor. Mostly they're reference or studio monitors. That said, as an acquisition device it's excellent at picking up minute details that you can still see on 1080 but probably wouldn't if it was captured in 1080. It's not unlike 35mm footage seen on 1080 or any lower format, you should still see more detail. The detail at night is exceptional.

I was hoping they'd show more of the light installation but that was still an angle I'll never see in person unless I get a blimp or airplane.

Having to live outside the Bay Area, these kinds of things are particularly appreciated!

I wanna say there are some 4K videos on YouTube, but again, pointless without a 4K monitor.

I checked, there are. Like this one.

Nice, good for YouTube for supporting 4K video.

I downloaded the bee video and here are the specs:

Video length: 3m 47s
File size: 633 MB. That's huge for a ~4 minute video.
Average bit rate: 22 Mbps. The uploaded video is posterized, so it's not the full quality that comes out of the camera.
Dimensions: 4,096 x 2,304 (16:9)
Frame rate: 24 fps. The title says it was recorded at 96 fps so I guess YouTube (or maybe I should say the flash player?) doesn't support the high frame rate.

The resolution is four times that of standard 1080p video. Here's a frame capture:

Honey Bees screenshot full res

To see how big the frame really is, you have to know how to show the image at its real size in whatever viewer you use. In IrfanView, open the image and then go to View / Original size.

Yeah, so, I just got the chills and screamed "I am the Batman" after watching that. They could/should seriously sell those clips to Warner Bros. Wow. Good stuff!
