If alive today, Joseph Lawrence Roth would have been 58. Here are a couple of projects that I have been working on and two different ways to participate in the celebration of Joe's birthday.

Everything I have ever heard about the young man screams of the quality of his character. Not only was Joe a great player, but he was, from what I have read and heard, a very special human being. I was only minimally aware of the movie. I recall seeing something about it some time ago, but as time moved forward, I forgot about it. The movie trailer is very encouraging. This is a story that must be told! At the very least, every single football player that ever wears the Blue and Gold needs to know. What is the status of the movie?

You're definitely putting effort into a worthwhile cause. Rest in peace, Mr. Roth

The film is not quite finished, but is very close to completion. The producers are working on a distribution plan - with a projected release in the fall of this year.

Great post, Run! Brings back many memories. I lived about 1/2 block from Joe when I was in school. I consider it an honor to have attended Cal the same time as Joe Roth. I look at the photos and watch the clip and I can't help but get very emotional. Words don't suffice to describe Joe.....let's just say he was a very, very special individual.
Thanks for a great tribute.

Joe was everything you could want in a

friend
son
brother
teammate

but most important of all, as a human being.

Couldn't agree more. One of my first conversations with the Roth family dealt with the distinction between a great football player and an outstanding human being.

Are you aware of Jamie Williams' script of the Joe Roth story?
It's really good and might make a dramatic back drop to your film.

Yes, I share the California Gridiron Facebook page with another Cal alum. We have a companion web site we are working on to bring a large collection of memorabilia to life.

Except for a few dozen living people, nobody at Cal even knows who Joe Roth was...nor do they care. This annual smarminess about Joe is disgusting.

Gtfo. Who cares how many people knew him. He is obviously respected and loved by those who knew him. Is that not enough? He touched enough people to make an impact. How about you? How will you be remembered when you pass? Ban this clown and be done. What a fucking asshole you are to feel the need to denigrate how people choose to remember someone. Absolutely pathetic.
