From today's Aaron Rodgers show, in a discussion of the NCAA lawsuit:

I don't know the answer, but in 2004 I'm guessing somewhere in South Berkeley?

Rodgers hated the city of Berkeley. His disdain for the city is well known and documented

but he loved la burrita!

If you listen to the interview, he really stated no ill feelings about the situation or berkeley - just making some points to think about.

And $700 a month is a pretty small amount for Berkeley. Seems like the cost of living adjustment just isn't working for Cal - I also heard this in the past - Cal's athletic department was so broke that it wasn't able to pay the full amount allowed to scholarship all athletes, which I believe is up to the school (and since Cal has 29 teams, it's a bigger deal).

I recently talked to a D1 athlete from Michigan - early/mid 2000's - I think they were paying enough stipend (~$900) to leave $400 or so left over after rent in Ann Arbor.. no sharing rooms either. That's very different from Cal where $700 can hardly buy a room 20 minutes from campus.

I wonder what Stanford pays out as a monthly stipend now? Or Cal for that matter?

I could be wrong, but I might've remembered him saying he lived on Ashby.

But Ashby is pretty nice east of Adeline.

Okaydo, you're the Aaron Rodgers scholar so I'll ask you, what is his deal with Juwan Howard? Why does he call him Juwana man and always make fun of him in tweets?

wonder if this has anything to do with it:

[quote=]The Enough Project and the University of Wisconsin-Madison's student chapter of the Conflict-Free Campus Initiative will host a rally for students featuring NFL star Aaron Rodgers, actor Emmanuelle Chriqui and Congolese rapper Omekongo Dibinga to raise awareness about the war in Congo and American's connection to it.

Prob not too many places next to campus where you will find your own room for 700. At least not in a traditional apartment setting. Plus utilities, you need a least 1k to have your own room.

??????
West of Telegraph nothing but $hit holes.
(Many apts w/ student athletes)
Telegraph to College is reasonable.
(Cal student athletes have lived at Eldridge Cleaver's old digs for years.....and I'll bet they are totally unaware of the property's history).
East of College gets nicer.
(no known student athlete addresses)

Yeah, I agree, but I can also imagine someone from Chico (or elsewhere for that matter) thinking that area (both North and South of Adeline) is "rough." Some of houses have bars on the windows, for example.

The area around Ashby is within the turf of the Waterfront Gang and the South Berkeley Gang, and they often clash with the Northside Oakland gang as well. Berkeley pretends it doesn't have a gang problem, but that's not the case. The problem was even more pronounced in the early 2000s, but still exists today.

Ashby from Telegraph to Shattuck is nice, quiet, safe.

I'm around there a lot, even last night.

On the other hand, the area around AShby Bart ain't safe.

It's really funny how you can easily go from "safe" to "unsafe" neighborhoods, and they're all next to each other.

But I know the area well. I know how to navigate the area so I can be safe.

I was actually robbed at gunpoint by a couple of teens not far from Ashby Bart in 2007 (near Alcatraz and Adeline).

So how do the student athletes who live on Ashby get to class?

Bus it?

Walking?

Car?

What if it's late?

Suffice to say....
You and I have a different standard for "nice."
