Just for grins, I logged the number of years experience for each starter on defense for each game this year. (Because it's dead here at work but I'm not ready to go home yet.)
I counted a redshirt year, so a true frosh = 0, redshirt senior with 3 years on the team = 4 (max).
Coming out of camp, our pre-season defense (which, in hindsight, was wishful thinking) had an average of 2.5 years experience: 3.0 on the DL, 2.0 LB, 2.25 DBs.
The overall average dropped immediately to 2.3, then down to 1.8 for the WSU game (Kragen in, McCain out). We rose briefly to 2.0 for UCLA (Lee for Lapite), but then dropped to a season low of 1.6 for Oregon State (Hunter, Kragen and Walker, all with 0 experience).
Back to 2.0 (Lopa and Moala replacing Hunter and Kragen) but then dropping again, finishing up against Stanfurd at 1.7 -- Hunter, Barton and Walker all started, all true freshmen.
This is starters only -- it would be more accurate to weight the experience scores by number of snaps, to get a true picture of the experience of the team on the field.
Coleman, Camporeale and Jefferson started every game, by the way. Kudos.
