So I was listening to a podcast on Bay Area sports guy where they were interviewing dan Dibley.

Let me start by saying that I enjoyed Dibley while he was on knbr, but lost a lot of respect for him when he left for 95.7 and proceeded to bash knbr every chance he got. I'm not the biggest fan of knbr either, but it just seemed completely unprofessional and, above all, extremely stupid to burn your bridges with knbr.

Long story short, dibleys 95.7 show got cancelled and after that, i was very interested to see where he was going to end up - since he unwisely pissed off knbr.

Well the basg podcast was enlightening. So Dibley explained during his interview that he's now working four jobs. And it sounded like he listed them in order of importance. First, he's doing traffic for kcbs. He's also driving for uber. His third job is refereeing for hs girls volleyball. And then he kind of mentioned offhandedidly that he's doing the post game for cal football games with the cupper.

So to recap, this radio icon is driving for uber and refereeing girls volleyball, and oh, in his spare time he will do cal post game shows. How the mighty have fallen (I'm talking about him and us).

Which brings me to question:

1. Where is kate?
2. Why hire Dibley? - while on knbr-the morning show (which he was associated with) was extremely anti-cal, led by self proclaimed bro poster Brian Murphy. While Dibley was not half as bad as Murphy, he was (at best) lukewarm towards all things cal.

I mean, I know it's not a huge deal who is hosting post game. But it just strikes me as a very odd hire. In the past, we've always had familiar voices during our radio broadcasts: like pawlawski, Troy Taylor, Kate, etc. people who understand cal and understand our past. Dibley doesn't know crap about us; and I already know I'm going to miss kate.

Not only that, but the guy has the face for radio and the voice for chalkboard scratching. I could not care less about his radio station loyalties, as any industry that provided a home for Ralph Barbieri for 30 years has something intrinsically wrong with it. What I don't like is that his voice is raspy and irritating, his knowledge is surface level, and his affinity for Cal is negligible.

Kate's a KNBR employee. Highly doubt she could contractually do a KGO show.

I don't mind Dibley but to get a guy who's shown some disrespect and lack of knowledge of Cal in the recent past seems to be a pretty questionable move.

Kate is doing a lot of other work, she didn't do it last year. Cupper was teamed with Danny Freisinger.

It must be generational. I like him and miss him. I love Townie but Bucher's favorite sound is his own voice pontificating and stretching a 10 second statement to 5 minutes.

I was driving into work yesterday morning and heard Dibley on a traffic report on KCBS...he wasn't in the studio, he was the guy in a car to whom they threw it to give an on-the-scene report of the backup on 280 at Magdalena.

I may have contributed to Dibley's demise at KNBR. I have never called in, but one day a caller was in the middle of saying something completely noncontroversial and got cut off (i.e., hung up on) mid-sentence on Gary's show. Gary asked what happened and Dibley made clear he did it on purpose to be funny. The guy called back and then Dibley cut him off again, and again laughed about it. I could tell that Gary was confused and not happy what Dibley had done. To me, it was just contemptuous of the caller and really all callers and listeners. It wasn't funny; it was d-baggish. I wrote an email to KNBR management and referred to it as contempt of caller. Dibley was off the air soon thereafter.

Dibley left for greener pastures (seemingly) at 95.7 when that station emerged. However, as others have stated, "Dibs" irreparably burned some bridges by bad-mouthing KNBR and Lee Hammer on air at his new job. When things didn't work out at the Game, he not only couldn't go back to KNBR, but he also sort of black-listed himself in the local market. Much as Larry Krueger had to serve a "timeout" period for a few years after getting axed for his "brain-dead Caribbean" hitters comments about the Felipe Alou-led Giants, Dibs is also in professional purgatory for now.

However like the Cal Bears (hopefully), perhaps he will rise from the ashes this season and redeem himself. America loves a comeback story...

Scott took Dibley's job at KNBR when Dibley left. She also works for CSNBayarea on the Earthquake games. Quite frankly, she has moved beyond hosting a post game college football radio show. She is headed for the big time.....
