Each year it gets harder and harder to find this magazine, especially in the Santa Cruz area where the bookstores that used to carry such stuff have either gone out of business or scaled back considerably.
I realize that you can order it on itunes if you want a cyber copy. I don't.

I want a hard copy. Recently I went over to Barnes and Noble in San Jose. They have a huge inventory of magazines, including football magazines. No luck.
In the past I have found it there but these days most football magazines are fantasy football magazines.

Supposedly, according to Phil's website, you can get the magazine at selected CVS pharmacy's, Target and other specified stores. However, I have no idea which stores he selected and aparently none of them are in Santa Cruz where we have several CVS and at least 2 Targets. Santa Cruz is not a hot bed for college sports so I get it but it is still very frustrating.

If you have any recommendations on where to find the magazine in the south bay or Santa Cruz county I would appreciate it. Tomorrow I may have reason to go to the south bay so I probably should have posted this earlier so I could combine trips.

Thanks for the help.

Looks like you can call and order:

I also see it on Amazon from third party sellers:

Agree every year it gets harder and harder to find. Last two years I found mine at Barnes and Noble. I checked two weeks ago at the big Barnes and Noble in Emeryville and they said they had ordered it last year and probably would order again this year towards the end of July.
In the meantime I found it at DeLauer's (sp?) on Broadway near the 12th street BART station. They said they order it every year. It is your classic smoke and magazine shop which used to be in every big city. There used to be a similar shop on Bancroft near Telegraph in Berkeley. San Francisco used to have 3 or 4. One was on Powell Street just a few blocks down from Union Square. I don't know if it is still there.

I have checked the link at amazon but could not get the best discount offer there. Can you give one more link to some other store?

My heart skips a beat every year when I first see it in a store. The college football OCD bible!
I have seen it in the Safeway on Market Street in San Francisco - which for some weird reason gets all the college football magazines : Lindy's, Athlon, Sporting News; first - but I got my Phil Steele about ten days ago at Barnes and Noble at the fabulous El Cerrito Plaza. Never too early to start memorizing Phil's Top 45 Inside Linebackers in Conference USA!
Spoiler Alert - Phil has us playing in the TicketCity Cactus Bowl against West Virginia. Yee - haw!!

I went by Barnes & Noble in EC Plaza today, and they had 5-6 copies available.

His website says at CVS but I've never seen it there. Online at his website or Amazon is easy. I went to Barnes and Noble if for no other reason to enjoy seeing all the other printed material they have. Maybe I'm weird but I can spend a few hours in a two story bookstore.

A couple years ago I found it in the Target in Emeryville.

I should have specified that I could probably order it if I wanted to wait for delivery.
I was hoping to be able to actually see it somewhere and purchase on the spot.
I can probably order it from my local bookstore and will do that if all else fails, regardless of whether or not it's the best deal.
I prefer to support my local bookstore in such cases. Although I order plenty of books from Amazon as well.

Interesting that folks are finding it at Safeway.
We have several in Santa Cruz.
And I can check the Safeway's in the south bay while I am there today.
And I will check the Barnes and Noble on Stevens Creek again hoping they have arrived there finally.

I'll call around as well.
Thanks for the tips folks.
Again, if anyone has actually seen it closer to Santa Cruz or the south bay, I'd love to know where.

Are there no magazine/paper/cigar/horse handicap paper stands or shops in Santa Cruz? Even Honolulu has at least one of those, but I realize these are also becoming obsolete.

Yeah, these are becoming pretty scarce, probably due to the drop in tobacco use. I suspect tobacco was the lifeline of many of these old time "newsies" .

I magazine/newspaper stands. I remember when playing fantasy baseball, I would go to one on Van Nuys Blvd. and Ventura in Sherman Oaks (there was/is a ginormous one there) before each season and buy like 5 different roto preview magazines along with the USA Today roto edition.

That's a possibility.
There was a guy on Mission but I think it's a Goodwill recycle spot now.
Maybe I can find a recycled version:p

Happy Ending: After calling numerous stores in Santa Cruz, I finally found a Barnes and Noble in the south bay that had the magazine.
They have plenty of copies as well as a nice stock of sports and football magazines at the Almaden Plaza store. I got so excited I bought 2 copies (I usually destroy one copy anyway), after all I don't want to have to travel an hour if I need another copy.

The happy ending part is that I landed my first ever flat screen TV on the same trip.
I bought a Samsung 6500 series 4K 50" TV (model # UN50JU6500) at Video Only in Mountain View.
I recommend that outfit. They give great deals and know the product better than others in the business.
Plus, they give quality support that is hard to find these days. Many folks end up tearing there hair out if there are problems with the product.

They gave me a 3 yr. warranty and a low price guarantee through labor day.
The total price?
$981.56
