I know there are a lot of golfers out there on the board - I'm going to be the area next week, clubs in hand. Hoping to get to a range a couple of times - all I remember was tilden and their multi tier range and crappy plastic mats of varying quality. Any public grass driving ranges? I'm often in Oakland or Sunnyvale, but can't remember anything hitting of grass anywhere closer than Coyote Creek in Morgan Hill or maybe the Bridges in Danville. I know it's a drought, so places might be mats only this year.... if typically grass, but not this year, I might make a mental note for the future.

Metropolitan Golf Links in Oakland claims to have one of the only all grass driving ranges around

They have grass on the right hillside section of the range at Boundary Oak in Walnut Creek.

Pleasanton Golf Center is one of the nicer practice facilities around.

They have both grass and turf (under overhang) along with a chipping and putting green.

Thanks, all great suggestions. I always forget metro is there since it's relatively new... so I'll give it a shot since it's probably not so hot as the others this time of year, and the humidity from the bay might mean the grass is less burnt.

Anyone know anything in the south bay?

Mariners Point in San Mateo has a grass area to the left of the two level concourse with mats. Might be too far north for you though.

I play at Metro frequently. They have a well maintained grass driving range that includes a practice area for chipping and pitching.

Shoreline in Mountain View periodically has grass available, and a decent short game area. Also. Callippe Preserve in Pleasanton has grass available on certain days.

There's also a grass area at Pruneridge, the nine-holer in Santa Clara.

I have my best days at the range there. Wonder if it has anything to do with the 25mph tailwind straightening everything out.

Mariners Point... good to know, close to 101/SFO, so might hit that up passing by sometime.

Shoreline looks very convenient. Pruneridge says $40 to hit off grass for non 'VIP' members.

All in all, there a 4-5 good options that should work.
