Since 1904, Cal and Washington have played American Football 94 times. The all time series is 52-38-4 in favor of the Huskies with an average score of Washington 19.7 - California 18.4.

Washington's longest win streak is 19 wins from 1977-2001, their second longest is the current 6 game streak.

Cal's longest win streak is 5 games (1947-1951 and 2002-2006). No other streak has gone beyond 4 wins for either side.

The series began back on Nov. 24, 1904. The game ended in a 6-6 Tie. Football was put on hiatus in 1906 when American football was seen as too dangerous and rugby took over the scene. I was not able to find information on Cal-Washington Rugby scores from 1905-1915. Football returned for good in 1915 and our schools again began to play each other.

Since then, we have played twice in 1915, twice in 1916, and almost continuously since. The only years I cannot find records that we met on the field were: 1918, 1920, 1943, 1978, 1980, 1983, 1987, 1995, and 1996.

Good a place as any to mention the coach of the mutts between 1908-1916. Gil Dobie. In Seattle, he was 58-0-3. Interesting character - won 3 national championships elsewhere later. For those of you interested in coaching and/or the early history of the sport, check him out.

We just have to go 7-1 in conference for the next dozen years and we'll be right back at .500
