Sonic Fiber just moved into my neighborhood (sunset district). Just wondering if anybody cares to share their experience with them and/or Dish. I'd like to continue access to P12 Networks, so not currently considering DirecTV. Do Dish subscribers have access to all the P12 channels? Either online or on TV in HD?

Don't know if it makes sense to dump Comcast for broadband and keep them for TV? I hear Dish has good DVRs although I own my Tivos which work only with cable.

I've been very pleased with Dish Network after initially bemoaning the move from Direct TV. I found that I actually prefer Dish over DTV for the DVR system and the overall ease of use. Can't compare to a cable company though as I haven't used one in a long while.

That said, I'll gladly cut the cord with them all as soon as P12N offers a standalone solution I can stream through Apple TV.

Dang, this fiber service is not available east of 19th Ave so that's a pretty limited service area.

I have Dish and Sonic (not Fiber) and have been pleased with both, especially Sonic. Sonic's customer support is great to work with, and I love that I don't have to do the "threaten to switch to another ISP every year" to get locked in at another year of a discounted rate; they just charge what they charge, and it is very reasonable. I do hope they will roll out their Fiber to my city soon.

Souse are you able to get both the national and local p12 channels in HD? Can you also stream them online?

Also do you know if the Dish mobile app lets you AirPlay video?

I have Sonic in Santa Rosa and they are very good.
I also have DISH, and like them a lot better than Directv.

I switched, to get the Pac 12 network.

thanks for the feedback... looking for a good alternative to Comcast. don't like how they penalize me for being a longtime customer... and why they need like 10 apps to do three things is beyond me.

I don't get regional channels like I've heard other's mention. There's a national feed and an alternate feed. It's never been an issue though. I've never NOT been able to watch a Cal game.

And yes, you can stream from the app via AirPlay. The app is great actually. I can store (actually download) anything I want I want to my IPad. As a frequent traveler on long flights, that's been huge.

My sister just got Sonic fiber in the Sunset - it's a no brainer of a deal - something like $40 for 1 Gigabit of speed. The second they offer it here in the East Bay I'm switching. She's had it for about 1 month and has no complaints.

I've had Dish for the past few seasons (after having Directv for 15 years) - I've really enjoyed everything about Dish. All Cal games in HD, good technology, and the ability to stream any channel of live TV to my iPad or phone anywhere in the country. So I only pay for 1 TV since I can stream to other parts of the house (and beyond).

DISH gets expensive after Year 1 of your two year contract. You could always negotiate DTV down in year 2. Not so with DISH. At most, you'll get a $10/mo. discount in year two after they jack your rate up $50+.

Right now, DISH isn't carrying NFL Network or WGN due to rate disputes with those companies. It always seems to be the case where DISH has a major beef with channels and will stop carrying them for several months and they will NOT "compensate" you for their non-coverage. DTV was the opposite and would even give you a Season subscription to NFL games, etc. They were MUCH more generous than DTV (plus their satellite reception was superior).

You can negotiate with Dish just as easily as you can with Directv - they gave me a $35 per month discount in Year 2. You need to get in touch with the cancellation/retention dept - that is where the magic happens.

I'm in the Outer Sunset 41st Ave and looked into Sonic.
Their website said availability for my address maxes out at 20 mbs for $40+$13 modem/ata rental ($53 total) per month. I currently have Comcast Internet (only) that gets 50mbs for $70. Id rather pay $17 more for the significant improvement in speed.

Sounds like Sonic doesn't offer fiber at your address yet - just their regular service. I know Sonic fiber is offered on 23rd Avenue - maybe they will get to you soon. In the meantime, yes, sounds like Comcast is your best option.

they're rolling out gigabit fiber across the sunset this year, so it may be available later this year for you. It just became available on my block. I called in, and the total cost w/ taxes fees, etc... is $63/mo, but that includes a router/access point rental at $10/mo and $13/mo in taxes and fees. Most people probably already have their own router/access point, so you can get this down to $53/mo

You can also get $10/mo off if you combine w/ Dish, so that's why I was looking into it.
