Per Twitter Carlos Strickland is leaving the program. I had high hopes for this guy, it seemed like he was having an excellent camp!

Well that sucks if true. Second season in a row we've lost a 4 star receiver that never played one down.

Sounds like this move is due to a very ill family member rather than academics.

Saw his tweet. It's a huge loss to our team but I can't blame him for wanting to be near his ailing grandfather. I wish him and his family all the best and hope his grandfather makes a full recovery. Go Bears!

I wish him and his family the best.

On a related note, I'm sure glad we overloaded recruiting WRs now.

Does anybody know whatever happened to 4* WR Erik Brown? He left the program around the same time last year.

At this rate Demetris Robertson will be on the field for every snap this season.

At this rate Demetris will be the only receiver on the field this season.

And both were not as good as advertised. We need scholarships anyway. We have plenty of receivers, maybe too many.

They both had good springs and I expected both to contribute

No knock on them

Next man up

This week Carlos looked like his light was on full go healthy moving well

I disagree about their potential- both 6' 4" guys with good hands, in a league where tall wrs are a weapon. Just leaves Gamble and Kobayashi as big true WRs, both frosh, and the TEs/ H receivers Hudson and Veasey- maybe Jack Austin if he stays healthy, but the speed factor is an issue.

Good luck to both Aaron and Strickland.

If Strickland played LB I'd be worried.
The fact that some here think we don't have enough WRs, talented or overall, is one of the funniest comments I've read here.

Stickland is a loss because he was a good player, but lets be real. Our problem will never be at WR as long as Dykes is the HC.

So now we only have
Singleton
Hanson
D. Rob
Hudson
Wharton
Duncan
Veasey
Worstell
stovell

to choose from in our 2 deep.

It was reported that Brown stayed in school. IF it was grades he didn't flunk out etc?

Gamble: 6'6"
Laris: 6'4"
Veasy: 6'3"
Hudson: 6'3"
Kobayashi: 6'3"
Austin: 6'3"
Hansen: 6'2"
Worstell: 6'2"
Duncan: 6'2"
Plus walk-ons Dunn and Wells, who both see a lot of reps in practice are 6'2" and 6'3."

I'd say they're doing fine when it comes to height.

Yes...I just thought the blanket "grades" wasn't doing him justice if he was still at Cal as a student...

Hansen and Stovall are having another great camp and I don't see how you keep them off the field.

I was making a joke about Demetris being the only receiver left at a rate of losing two receivers a week. :P

Non are having great camps unless the results are great and that remains to be seen

the Wr shows talent ... Gotta get the consistency keyed in on !!! All of them on whole
Some more and less than others. I see flashes

But I am from the school of #MyBall catch them all just do your job act like a spoiled brat and snatch the ball out of the air

It seems we have had more than 1 top rated recruit in both football and basketball needing to transfer due to family illness. Seems to be a problem

I don't remember the hoop transfer, but in the case of Strickland, if he was from the Bay Area, does this transfer happen? Even if he was from the SoCal area, would he have stuck around (and gotten home enough for his family situation)?
Sonny mentioned homesickness as being involved too-I suppose that can happen to any 18-19 year old, but I think the national footprint, recruiting from further than a drive home, is going to add to the possibility of this...

i think the hoops transfer was a woman wasn't it? didn't some big deal woman bball player leave?

eh you WANT to recruit nationally. it increases the talent pool. the stark reality is that there are not enough bay area kids with talent and grades. and frankly for many the cultural divide once you are outside of "the bay area" is enough that if homesickness sets in or home issues they are gonna leave. recruiting nationally is a good thing IMO. boo hoo it if you will. and the # of kids we are losing to this is relatively low and I'm pretty sure the # of kids we are losing from the program to transfers is decreasing every year. EVERY college program loses some kids annually to transfers

I wasn't lobbying against the national recruiting efforts-not sure they have a choice anyway as you point out. Just saying, its going to happen...

It's certainly more than just the location. Kids have always gone off go to college in different places. But in the last 10 years, the number of transfers has tripled from 200 to 700 (in the case of hoops).

That's not counting the Grad transfers I take it? That rule hasn't been around 10 years, or am I losing track?
I agree, you can be home sick almost anywhere. I think its logical to assume that someone who is an hour away might get a trip or two home to get over the hump. And if Strickland could see his grandfather every weekend, or every other, who knows how it might have shaken out....
