I've been tracking ticket prices for the Texas game on Stubhub and noticed they would be charging me a 20% buyers fee when I'm about to checkout. Is this new? I remember the buyers fee being closer to 10%..

I did buy a parking pass from them earlier in the week, so I was also wondering of they raised the fee on me knowing I'm looking to buy a ticket.

Stubhub fees are now huge. Ticketmaster is now cheaper in a lot of cases when possible.

wow, good to know. i looked at fees for the cal v texas game and they seem to come out to way more than 20%. Example, 208 for 4 tickets, 59.36 fees = 28.5%. That's with e-delivery. I believe the seller gets dinged 10% too, so that ~38% on the transaction.

If your buying (vs selling) use an aggregator like Seatgeek.

So I looked at seatgeek for cal v texas, and they don't aggregate stubhub seats, fee is 20% too. for venues where stubhub has the 'convenience monopoly' via direct contracts with the likes Cal football or the SF Giants, there are tons more seats on stubhub which seems to drive better deals. I still like buying tickets really late the night before a game or really early the morning of the game when people panic a little. Near game time, I feel like tickets sometimes go up because too many sold cheap and early, but sometimes plummet. Now I wonder if that has to do with the sellers being predominantly professionals vs season ticket holder or casual fans who have a change in schedule (or in CFB have a late announced game time they can't make).

This has always been my strategy as well. I've gotten some really good deals the day of the game.

You can think of it like the phenomenon seen in option pricing (which is what buying a ticket technically is, an option contract), as pricing gets more "in-the-money" (cheaper) or "out of the money" (more expensive), pricing trends either way (for selling).

SeatGeek (and I imagine all the others) do pretty well. They charge the seller a hefty chunk as well. Atleast SG allows you to search "fees included" so you know before you get to that last screen what you are in for.

Yeah, StubHub went from a great ticket source to screwing you royally in fees in the last year. I especially got hammered getting tickets to Hamilton over the summer.

I had been using Stubhub the last couple of years, but this year I got the Bearitory Pass, which works out to $26.50 a game. For Texas my seats are in Section L, southwest endzone.

Link: Bearitory Pass

When Stubhub started listing prices without the fee, they took some flak and they said you can check a box to include the fees, but you have to look for it, and I think you have to check it every time you visit the site. Sounds like they did this in preparation for jacking up the fees.
