Its getting ridiculous. I'm getting spam from Cal Basektball, Berkeley Engineering, Cal Sports, Berkeley Haas, Cal Athletics, Cal ATO, UC Berekeley, Berkeley Online, and Lair. Now the ATO is repeatedly calling me at work and on my cell. And lets not forget the 27 efforts to confirm my contact info my some mystery head hunter the university turned loose. Is everybody else getting this treatment?

You love Cal, Cal loves you back, just not always the way you want.

You are going to have to buy your way out of this pickle. In light of the fact my annual tuition at Cal was $637.50 I don't feel annoyed, I feel guilty, so I pay like a slot machine.

Yup, we received three different holiday cards from Cal: one featuring Sather Gate with snow all around it, one with The Campanile, and one with a generic star-type thing on it. Weirdly unnecessary.

In general, though, I'm glad Cal is beginning to move toward a private university model by harassing its alumni for support. If Cal wants to maintain its long enjoyed status as an elite institution now that it receives much less funding from the State, this is what it needs to do.

I was usually (OK, always) the one calling the hot chick.

Did you originally send your information to all the groups? If you did not, the first thing to check is the "From:" email address - it may actually the bad guys mimicking a Cal organization, trying to get you to click on a false link that could install malware on your devise. If you're not sure, just delete it immediately after moving it to the spam folder in your email program.

Consider creating a separate, unique Google email account only to be used for mailing lists or for any organization that requires an email address.

That way your "real" email account doesn't receive the spam. It's free, and Google has effective spam filters. You can also mark the email as "spam" or "spam / unsubscribe." I use the "spam / unsubscribe" rather than clicking on the bottom of an email that "offers" an unsubscribe link just to avoid a common malware ploy to get your account information.

Since you seem to be well connected with different orgs at Cal, you can also create a unique Google email account just for Cal. All the benefits noted above, and you can easily see the email whenever you want.

Of course Google email (Gmail) is available for Android, Windows & Mac users, and Gmail is now available on an iPhone.
