Swell.

For those knowledgable, would this hire be projected to do better than say, a Wyking Jones type?

He may not set a school record like WJ did, however.

Supposedly. He was Gonzaga's "HC-in-waiting", whatever that really means. Had a big hand in recruiting and game planning, supposedly. Supposedly.

We'll see if he's up to the task of having a job like Arizona as your first job...pretty insane if you ask me. How many lifelong assistants get a big job like that despite having no connection to the program?

Maybe he's a "stud" like all these writers are saying, though .

From Washington, played professionally in Germany and Australia, is Gonzaga's main international recruiter which is his claim to fame.

Seems like a bad fit for Arizona really, more like a guy Cal might have taken a gamble on, but with no HC experience I'd take a pass even for us, but for Arizona? Makes no sense.

Agree. Very good coach but not the best fit. Although I said the same thing about Cronin so what do I know

I was more concerned about a strodamire, which I thought would make AZ a recruiting monster for them

This would be a great hire for uA and a great loss for the 'Zags ... unless Coach Few brings the donut-boy on as an assistant..

Kind of a shocker as I would have expected AZ to go for an established HC. We'll see if the Few magic is transferable and if Lloyd's reputed recruiting prowess is for real. Roy Williams is the only name that comes to me when I think of guys who jumped from long tenured assistant to a successful HC career at a blue chip program.

Lot of blue chip coaches may not have been interested in a program that likely is facing serious sanctions. The problem is why not a handful of alums with coaching records and who would not care about being on probation for what would have been their ultimate job. This guy better be as good as advertised or the AD may be looking for a new job. Basketball actually matters at UofA.
