Has offers from Kansas, USC, UCSB, LSU, Pepperdine, WSU....Plays for Los Altos High in Hacienda Heights. In their league opener he scored 43 points, had 15 rebounds 5 blocks and 3 steals. Decent ball handling and can shoot the three. Just a sophomore and is still growing and filling out. Will likely be rated higher by next year.

Seems like a good kid. His dad on the other hand...

Was it the dad with the recorder? At some sort of restaurant? Just checked. Jelani Gardner has a wiki! And they blame his leaving on a lack of playing time. I recall that he always got the ball in his hands at the end of the close games and would rarely succeed. Either picked clean or bricked it. Must have driven Fowlkes and Gonzalez crazy.

Except the payment was supposedly from the very same agent "Jelani's uncle" who lived a block away from the Gardner's in LA and whom Bozeman had reported to the NCAA a year earlier for "loaning" money to Jelani's friend Tremaine Folwkes to buy a car.

Strange to rat out the guy with whom you would later broker a deal to a family the agent already knows intimately? Strange for an agent to work with the guy who ratted him out a year earlier when he could just give the money to the Gardners directly?

If I recall correctly, it became clear during his freshman season that he wasn't a very good college point guard, and Bozeman decided to burn Anwar McQueen's redshirt so that McQueen could play point guard.
