After a great Tournament run with St. Pete's goes back to be HC at his alma mater as widely expected.

That worked out nicely for them.

well it works out nicely for Holloway - not for St. Peters who loses their coach.

So basically like their version of Dennis Gates, except Seton Hall's AD was competent enough to make it happen for them.

Pretty much, though kind of like a combo of Dennis Gates and Travis DeCuire, because he's also the assistant who left to be a HC at a small program, had about as much success there as possible, then was brought back as HC.

Holloway is similar to Gates:

Holloway was a player at Seton Hall, like Gates at Cal

Holloway coached at Seton Hall, like Gates coached at Cal

Holloway was a successful head coach at a minor mid-major, just like Gates

The differences are:

Holloway was an All American player, with offers from Duke and many top programs

Holloway was a coach for Seton Hall for six(?) years. I think Gates was a Graduate Assistant at Cal

Holloway took his mid-major to the Elite Eight. Gates team lost in the first round of the NIT this year, and lost in the first round of the NCAA last year

Holloway was born in NY and spend much of his life in New Jersey. Gates is from Chicago, and besides his time at Cal spent most of his life on the east coast

So Holloway just seemed destined to be the head coach at Seton Hall

But despite those differences, Gates would have been a great Head Coach for Cal

Man it's too bad we weren't able to land Holloway as a recruit back in high school.

Though I'm sure knowlton would've figured out how to F that up too even if Holloway was a cal alum

Seton Hall was 21-11, 11-8 in conference and they fired their coach so they could grab Holloway before anyone else did.

If Fox ever went 21-11, 11-8 he would get a 7 year extension. Instead he finishes 10th and we still let Gates slip away.

Holloway was even the McDonald's AA game MVP beating the Kobe lead team, and lead his team to the Sweet Sixteen before injuring his knee late in the 2nd round game
