I'm all on board with criticizing Fox but in this case we are talking about not playing the 2nd string walk on in spite of the fact he hit some 3s during pre-game warms ups. As reasons for hating on Fox go that's about as thin as it gets.

Speaking of walkons, and maybe a guy picked up from the RSF fall championship game, I thought Robinson looked pretty good. Didn't look overmatched. But it was EWU.

I'm surprised that didn't trap full court, or even half court

He hit that 3, but forced hissecond shot

Also made one of the top 4 assists of the game (other 3 great passes were from Brown)

Overall he played his roll quite well

Still we were short handed. Cal's walkons are typically about the same level as guys that play at EWU but come to Cal for the education and PAC-12 level play. Braun used to use walkons often over healthy scholarship players, and the difference between the quality of our scholarship players and our walkons has collapsed under Fox. If we have a guy that can hit open threes and defend guards, seems like EWU was the time to use him.

It's not "All hail Fox!" One can both believe that Fox is a horrible coach and also acknowledge the complete folly of thinking that a guy is qualified to play because he can hit a few uncontested threes in warm ups. I'm pretty comfortable with the 99.9% chance that he would not be the solution to all or any of our problems. I don't need Fox to start 30,000 different students with eligibility to prove to me that none of them are the answer.

If he is given a roster spot he should be "qualified to play" especially if guys are out at his position. At least to spell the starter. If he plays well, play him more.

Maybe more so than a guy fox got from the rsf last week. Except he is not a point guard

Understood, which is why we saw Robinson play for 6 minutes spelling Brown.

The "shooting guards" Roberson and Bowser combined for 38 minutes and 4 points on one 2 pt FG made between them.

Cal is # 360 of 363 teams in made 3 pointers per game and is #355 in 3pt % at .268

Couldn't hurt to try the kid that was a dead eye shooter in high school and in practice, at least when Askew is out. Otherwise where is your scooting going to come from?

At the same time, I agree it is just rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic.

I played in the RSF regularly with / against a guy that ended up making Braun's roster and getting game time as a walk on. It was a failure of Braun that he couldn't recruit players who were obviously and clearly better than RSF walk-ons, not an admirable trait that he found walk-ons who could take minutes at the P12 level.
