We would already have a coach in place so we could get some pub this weekend during the tourney

That assumes you want pub re: your marginal hire. Unless they are hiring Jason Kidd, no one will care.

Calm down. There are several other power conference teams that also have vacancies and also haven't filled them yet.

If only we knew earlier in the season that our coach was terrible and would be fired come March......then, we could have been ready.

I don't want to hear sometime in April that everyone we were interested in has already been hired so we're pleased to announce the hiring of our Plan X candidate or the promotion of our interim HC.

Don't worry, the reason for the delay is that Cal is targeting multiple coaches in the sweet 16 and needs to wait for the next rounds to conclude.

It seems to me that it is more important to make a good hire than to make a quick hire. Ben Braun was fired on March 25, 2008 and Mike Montgomery (a hire that pleased many Cal fans) was hired on April 5, 2008. If a new coach was announced sometime this week, that timing would be on par with the Mike Montgomery hiring since Fox was fired on March 9. Nevertheless, I don't care how long it takes to hire a new coach as long as it is a hire that will excite Cal fans, and more importantly, recruits.

In addition, as applicants are informed that they are no longer under consideration for the UC Berkeley Bears coaching position, as a courtesy to both themselves and institutions which must wait in line for our decision, they are able to save face, and find employment.

1st, faulty premise. If Knowlton knew what he was doing Dennis Gates would be our basketball coach.

However, as others have pointed out, even though Knowlton does not know what he is doing, there is still good reason to not have named a head coach yet. Some candidates' teams may have just finished playing. The last search was too rushed.

Austin paper says Cal has an interest in Texas interim coach Rodney Terry. The Horns play Xavier Friday night in the Sweet 16...

Following the news that Penn State coach Micah Shrewsberry would leave the program for the same job at Notre Dame, Penn State has begun to cobble together a list of functional replacements. It will include interim Texas coach Rodney Terry.

The program has already said that it would be searching for a coach "who will take us to unprecedented heights" and one of Penn State's first reported targets is a name that gained a lot of traction this season.

According to Kirk Bohls of the Austin American-Statesman, Penn State and California are both interested in interim Texas coach Rodney Terry.
