Needs to be clarified. They allowed last year but the people at the gates said they did not know. The sign says no umbrellas

This has been F----ed up for years. The actual policy is (and has been for many years) that they are allowed into basketball games. But they use the same sign outside Haas that they use outside Memorial, which includes umbrellas as prohibited. The security folks have no idea, of course, so they often look at the sign and refuse entry. Every great once in awhile, apparently, someone higher up explains the actual policy -- then they are allowed for at least a few games before backsliding.

I wrote to Jim Knowlton. He is usually good answering emails. I think a small umbrella all plastic, in your pocket, would make it in. Ill try, especially since my parking was moved from rsf to underhill. ( i canceled it so now I am a street person, unless the church lots take me)

This is exactly what I experienced last season. There was one game where an overzealous security screener made me check my umbrella at the bag-check tent, leading to a huge line at that tent on a rainy night. After the outcry from many of us, umbrellas were allowed at Haas for tge rest of the season.

I think the umbrella policy provides an additional $15M of coverage over the general liability policy.

Oh……

Cancel my subscription to the Resurrection
Send my credentials to the House of Detention
I got some friends inside

I sent my Gold Standard rep an email earlier today asking about the current umbrella policy.

He just replied saying that he had gotten confirmation that umbrellas will be allowed in Haas.

Wow. Just to further demonstrate the problem here, I just checked the "Game Day Policies" link on today's email about Men's BB.

"EVENT POLICIES

Haas Pavilion

Prohibited Items: ....Umbrellas..."

Compare that to the information on the "Haas Gameday A - Z" site:

"Permitted Items

The following items are permitted in Haas Pavilion: ... Umbrellas..." [Note: This page ALSO shows a picture of an umbrella with a slash through it as a "prohibited" item that will be seized.]

Maybe someone might want to forward this post to the Athletic Department?

Yes. Permitted items … umbrellas.
Also. Prohibited items … Sticks / Poles umbrellas. (Presumably this means umbrellas carried by Polish people. Does this include Polish Jews? Because I think one or more of my forbears may have come here from Poland. Although Eastern European Jews typically identified only as Jews, not as ethnic people from whatever country in which they resided.)
And good to know that the house opens one hour before kickoff.
