Can someone give me something to cling to for New Year's Day, other than my soon-to-be-broken resolution to exercise more?
Pitt has all the tools that we don't, when I look at the stat sheets. They beat Ohio St in OT, and only dropped out of the Top 25 when they got blown out by Miss St. They're undefeated at home and are No. 25 on KenPom (compared to our distant No. 134). What's the scenario where we steal a win?

Disclaimer: I haven't watched them play.
Only thing that stands out is that while we're at 36.5% from 3 point land, they're at 35%. No real advantage either way. So a scenario in which they are not on fire, and somehow, someway our guys decide to play better defense (not sure how), we get out of there with a win. Again, this is a scenario, but most likely not a reality.

That's kind of good as during the winter break the place seems like a morgue without the students.

I hope how we played v. Mizzou is more indicative of the talent of this team. Mizzou beat Kansas and is a good team. The losses to Cornell and SDSU were pretty disturbing though.

Kenpom:

Pitt 25, Cal 133

Pitt has very strong offense, Stong defense

Pitt two bigs are very good rebounders

Pitt scores more inside (with a high 2pt conversion rate)


Cal has a solid offense, but bad defense (222 out of 364 teams)

We are simply too damn small to compete, and we don't play defense. At least Madsen could get them to play some D, no? Nope. He needs to recruit tall players who make D their identity. Until he does, we will continue to suck. Every single game has been winnable this year.
