Who you say? Just the long time assistant at Sryacuse and actually the guy named in the succession plan if Jim B. ever retires. He was seriously in the running for the USC job last year.

USC was a very specific situation with very specific attractions for him. He wouldn't be interested in Cal just to be on his own. Boeheim is one of the few coaches who will get to pick his successor, who will be Hopkins. No reason for him to leave.

Maybe. Boeheim explodes at the idea he is retiring anytime soon. Does a guy want to wait 15 years? And if he thinks he could win at USC he has to REALLY think he could win at Cal.

No. SoCal roots are overrated. Sean Miller came in from ohio without any connection to the West Coast or SoCal and cleaned up the area in like 5 minutes. Ben Braun came from Michigan and landed the Rockfish class. Enfield came in from Florida and hired assistants Tony Bland and Jason Hart to do the SoCal thing. The no. 1 thing has to be getting the best fit.

Sean Miller had the benefit of USC imploding at just the right time plus the Arizona name, but I agree it's not the most important factor.
