Doubtful. ASU beat the Bears twice. Once very badly. Cal has already lost to USC once.

I really don't think Cal would be taking ASU's place - but there is a chance both teams can be in the NIT. My understanding is that NIT selection is part of the NCAA selection and pretty much follows the 'S-curve' for positions 69-100 after the NCAA takes the first 68 positions and adjusts for automatic qualifiers for both. I'm not sure how closely the S-curve follows RPI - but assuming it does...

ASU is #85 (which would be NIT) and Cal is #103 (which is just off the NITbubble). However, games in P12 tourney can impact these numbers. My guess is if ASU loses they are still in NIT. Cal's win today may also put them in the NIT, but tomorrow's game against Arizona can pop them right out again. If they happen to beat the wildcats - then I think they are in the NIT. They need to win the P12 tourney, IMO, to get to the NCAA at this point. If they lose to Arizona - I think they're done. Not sure how much a close loss will help at this point.

Doesn't playing Zona give our SOS a boost regardless of how we do against them, and might that bump us just a little higher and possibly into the NIT?

Wow up 16 with 8 minutes left, then outscored 23-4 the rest of the way. That's how you come from ahead to lose.

Shocky could speak to this but I think given that he is over 500 at ASU he is fine. Expectations are pretty darn low....I would be interested in Shockey opining on the importance (or lack thereof) of sports on the ASU campus compared to U of A where it seems to be extremely important....second city complex I would guess.

Clemson was another team that is probably ahead of us on the NIT curve, and they lost their first game in the ACC tournament to Florida State.

Was this the biggest collapse in Pac10/12 tournament history? What a choke job by ASU!

Thanks Elijah Stewart for bringing USC back and winning! You and your teams win may have improved CAL BEARS chances of marching further into another tournament...Go BEARS!
