Does anyone know of a way to stream the NBA finals on a Roku device without a cable subscription. Thanks very much.

Pardon for asking what might be obvious or none of my business, but are you outside the US? The Finals will be on ABC so no need for cable, etc.

No. I'm in the US. California.

Ballstreams. I used it for the season, but you may be able to order just for the finals. Works great.

Ball streams sounds like an adult movie title.

Who is your internet provider? The games are being streamed on ESPN3 online, which may be available based on internet subscription even if you don't have cable tv. For instance, if you have Comcast or AT&T home internet, you would have access to ESPN3 events even if you don't have cable TV. To watch on roku, you could watch via the WatchESPN app, available in the Roku channel store. If you're connecting from a home with internet from a participating provider, my experience is that you don't even have to log in. (Note that without a TV cable subscription, you would only be able to watch ESPN3 events ... other things shown on WatchESPN require you to have the channel via a cable/satellite subscription.) (Hopefully you do not have Time Warner for internet, since my understanding is that they do not offer access to ESPN3 unless you also order TV service from them.) Here is a list of ESPN3 internet providers: http://espn.go.com/espn3/affList

Alternatively, as someone else stated, since it's on ABC and not cable, you could just buy an antenna (assuming you don't already have one) and just watch directly on your TV.

Thanks for your reply. Ballstreams is closed to new registrants at the moment. But that is a great suggestion and hopefully it will be useful for me in the future.

Thanks for taking the time to reply. My internet provider is ATT but not ATT U-verse so I can't go that route. I will probably just buy an indoor antenna as that looks like my only option. Thanks again.

HD antennas are about $40 and work well getting locally broadcast HD signals (i.e. free), but you won't always get all stations at all times. Better test out ABC first. I get NBC, Fox, PBS all 100% fine, CBS most of the time and ABC never. My friend (a few miles away) gets ABC all the time and never gets CBS. So it kinda depends...gl.

Thanks for this tip, TheDudeSF. I have had a Roku for a couple of months and had no idea I can watch ESPN3 if I'm a Comcast internet customer. This morning I downloaded the watchESPN app. Set up is quite simple and I have ESPN3 now. It is pretty cool: it shows today's broadcast schedule, and also have archive of programs for at least the last few days.

start here to see if you'll get signal in your area: http://transition.fcc.gov/mb/engineering/dtvmaps/

This map will also tell you where to point your antenna.

if you do indeed live in an area that gets reception, hopefully you don't have any local obstructions that will block your signal.

Thanks very much to everyone who replied to my original post. I received my antenna today. Extremely easy to install and I get 62 broadcast channels including ABC. So I WILL be watching the Warriors!

Curiously I checked the WatchESPN faq and they changed it to say that what you are doing is not possible, even though as we know it currently is possible. But maybe it means that a change is (unfortunately) coming:

"I get ESPN3 through my affiliated ISP. Why can't I access it through Apple TV, Google Chromecast, Amazon Fire TV or Roku?
WatchESPN on Apple TV, Google Chromecast, Amazon Fire TV and Roku require an affiliated video subscription."
