How the hell did we win that game?

Oregon was on fire (we have had some bad luck on catching teams when they are hot). And Crabbe was doing his disappearing act (why, as a shooter, is he not squared up and ready to shoot?). You can tell when he goes up sideways it is not going down. What happened to that pure shot?

Anyway, I'll take it. Thank you Cobbs.

I only caught the last 8 minutes due to dvr error, but how in the hell did we not dominate when Oregon had 22 turnovers? Wow. I guess Jorge and Crabbe being 2 of 17 doesn't help. That was a heck of finish. A W is a W is a W.

Love our poise down the stretch, and that speaks to our coach, the seniors Jorge & Kamp, and solid Point Guard play.

The poise should serve us well in the Pac12 Tourney and NCAA Tourney.

We were lucky they had 22 TOs because that kept us in the game when two of our big scorers had under 10.

Oregon did definitely get sloppy but it was AWESOME to watch how Jorge played with 4 fouls over the last 6 minutes. He caused a couple errant passes, created a few turnovers, played TIGHT on the ball defense, never knowing if the refs would ticky tack him with #5 or not.

That over and back on Joseph while Jorge had 4 on him, was CLASSIC Jorge.

I wonder if the turnovers are a consequence of how quick they ran their offense.
When it was working (the middle 20 minutes of the game), they looked unstoppable. Great shooting, running our guys through picks, quick moves and offensive rebounds by their big guys for easy shots. Sort of seemed like a quicker version of us.
OTOH, some of their passes were a little quick and wild, and they seemed to tighten up in the last slowed down few minutes.

I'm impressed with what Altman has done with this team. They are a sleeping giant; I will savor the last several seasons of dominance.

they had a lot of turnovers, and gave up a lot of lay-ups at the end of the game. Cobbs broke them down time and time again.

The refs were terrible, but Oregon has game. Their new coach is doing a good job, and their shooting guard has incredible range. Really improved team.

Also, having Monty on the sideline is a huge advantage.

They can celebrate tonight's win, and then get in the right frame of mind to beat OSU to complete the sweep of the Oregons and keep hold of the conference lead.

Their top 4 scorers are seniors.
5 and 6 are juniors.
#7 is another senior.

Meanwhile, we start 2 sophomores and a freshman.

I'm not too worried about Oregon in the future.

Apart from his great coaching, anyone else catch when Monty got the T for accidentally bumping into the ref (Greenstein, the incompetent one) during a crucial part of the game (how a ref can justify calling a T there I have no idea) him yelling at the other ref "THIS F@*KING GUY". Classic. Monty is the best.

They lost 3 of their top 4 scorers last year and Altman has them much better this year. Altman is a really good coach with a string of something like twenty 20 win seasons. They seem to be doing pretty well recruiting and while I wouldn't call them a "sleeping giant", I would wager that they will be in the upper division of the Pac-12 as long as Altman is there and be a very tough out.

They do lose a lot. I wonder if Singler will entertain any ideas of leaving? However, I do think with Altman they will keep being a top half of the conference team. Very good coach, and he will keep recruiting very good talent!

Actually, Altman has a "string," if we mean by that the number of consecutive 20-win seasons, of one, last year. He did have a string of 11 at Creighton, but won 18 his last year there. He probably will win 20 this year, but right now Oregon stands at 18 wins.

He has coached continuously since 1989, and in 22 years has won 20 or more 14 times, maybe 15 in 23 years, if the Ducks get to 20 in the current season.

This is not to say he is not a good coach, but he is not Monty, who in his best years at Stanford in 3 seasons won 30 twice and 31 once, for a combined record of 91-10.

Even ignoring the disparity between records at Stanford and Creighton, Altman had no seasons to compare to Monty's best.

And, of course, in head to head competition in the Pac-10/12, Altman is 0 and 4 against Monty.

An incredible and very important win. We were there and loved watching it.
I'd say we were very fortunate to win it, as they were up 5 and playing superior basketball with around 5 minutes remaining -- But it wasn't luck, it was mental toughness from Cobbs and Kamp, and a lack of it from Oregon who had something like 5 straight turnovers at one point in the closing minutes.

I've said our upside potential was lost when Solomon's season ended, but Cobbs is getting better and better and maybe gives us hope for success in the post-season if the matchups are favorable.

He had ZERO turnovers for the game, and the ball was in his hands a lot.

Crabbe and Jorge played very good D, they were struggling and Crabbe goes scoreless in the 2nd half with the ducks scoring at over 50% - common sense says we lose a game like that.

Why did we win the game? JCobbs making good decisions in crunch time.

Taking nothing away from a great performance from Justin, I would say we win it because the entire team, led by Jorge, really turned up the defensive pressure in the last minutes. And because we have a coach that, with his competitive intensityand will, can summon this effort from a great group of guys.

Good Point. those turnovers by UO that kept Cal in the game did not just magically happen because of UO incompetence. They were forced TO's.

Yet another example of players buying what Monty sells. Justin goes for 28 points, and his first comment is about "turning up the defensive intensity."

That is the silver lining in Greenstein's actions: Kamp, Jorge, and Kravish all had some significant bench time.

UDub isn't going to lose again until the tournament, so the Bears need to run the last four. One at a time.

With 2-minutes left, OSu G Cunningham blocked his own dunk last night. The ball went through the hoop, bounded off his shoulder, which was up around the rim, and without going through the net, it popped back up through the hoop and back in play.
