I was wondering why Harris-Dyson has not been on the bench. I knew he was injured but thought he'd still be on the bench. Then I saw this article: https://www.dailycal.org/2020/02/01/harris-dyson-gordon-out-indefinitely-for-cal-mens-basketball/

"Juhwan won't be back," Fox said. "He is focused on his school work."

Are expectations that he'll return next season or will his slot be open for a new recruit?

The future status of Juhwan Harris-Dyson and Jacolbi Gordon is currently unknown (by us fans). To me, it's indicative of the apathy currently surrounding Cal Basketball, where the coach chooses to not comment on it, the media chooses to not press him on the issue and the fans are fine with that (because they're not really thinking about it), save the occasional query on BI.

I mean, imagine if it were two roster players on the Warriors!

If you're academically ineligible, you're not allowed to participate with the team. That includes practice, sitting on the bench, etc. You'll notice that Quade Green from UW isn't sitting on the bench either.

That's the thing though, we don't know if he's academically ineligible, just that he's "focused on his school work". (Bottom line, I guess I don't need to know exactly what his personal academic situation is.) And then there's Jacobi. Is he on the bench during games?

Just to clarify: I may have mis-spoken about academically ineligible players being able to practice. Apparently; they can practice, but can't travel. As for JHD, the specifics obviously aren't known. But given that he last played on Jan 2 over the semester break right about when players get their fall grades, it doesn't seem too hard to put pthe pieces together. That's usually when players deemed ineligible get the news. Also, a player would be out the entire quarter or semester if officially ineligible so it would make sense for Fox to say he won't be back season. He was just "working on things", I'd think you'd keep that door open.

This is not true. If you're academically ineligible you can:
Practice
Sit on the bench

The only thing you can't do is play.

And Quade Green was ON the bench against Washington State

Thank you. I had already corrected my previous statement above before you even posted.

I'm pretty sure that Cobi's career at Cal is over.

Maybe.

But whether true or not. He's part of the team now, and has been at games cheering for and supporting his teammates
