Cal signee Amaya Bonner is the top player for the Bishop O'Dowd girls, who will travel to Concord Wednesday at 7 p.m. to play Carondelet, led by Stanford signee Talana Lepolo.

Carondelet also has a senior going to UC Davis (Nya Epps), and is the top seed.

Tickets can be purchased at https://gofan.co/app/school/CA22880.

Since I coach the Carondelet JVs, I'll be behind the Carondelet bench (white-haired old guy), so if you come, say hi.

Carondolet is the only team that defeated Archbishop Mitty (23-1) this season in the championship game of the West Coast Jamboree. The Stanford point guard held TOs down and was also able to pass inside to the Concord
school's 6-5 post. As I have previously stated elsewhere, the Monarch's tallest front court player is Maya Hernandez (6-1). The game was even through three quarters but some clutch plays by the dynamic duo turned the tide. It's all about matchups.

From the East Bay Times:

No. 1 Carondelet 57, No. 5 Bishop O'Dowd 47

CONCORD Carondelet bolted out to a lead against visiting Bishop O'Dowd in the first quarter Wednesday, then held off a charge by the Dragons to win 57-47 and advance to the North Coast Section Open Division girls basketball championship game.

The Cougars suffered a setback early in the second quarter when starter Megan Dickert suffered a knee injury and was helped off the court. She was on crutches when the teams returned to the court for the second half.
"When our 4 got hurt, it was kind of a blow to us … but I think we just took whatever frustration came from that and just put it on the court," said Carondelet point guard Talana Lepolo, who led the Cougars with 15 points and also dished out a game-high eight assists. "I think just our composure kept us in."

Bishop O'Dowd coach Malik McCord had high praise for the Stanford-bound Lepolo.

"She doesn't have to score to dominate a game. She's that good," McCord said. "I'm super impressed with her, have been for a long time."

The Dragons have a star of their own in Cal-bound Amaya Bonner, who was practically unstoppable at times Wednesday night. The 6-foot-1 Bonner scored a game-high 25 points, including 17 of the Dragons' 26 points in the second half, and also had nine rebounds and three steals.

"She's just so tall and athletic … you just try to contain her a little bit," Sopak said.

Haven't been to a high school game in 2 years. Was talking to a friend at the Cal-WSU game who also use to tend a lot of high school games.

I've seen both players play when they were sophmores. Our recruit is very athletic but I'm not sure how well she shoots the three.

The Carondolet point guard played for St. Joe's of Alameda when I saw her. Good ballhandler but wasn't a great shooter. She must have improved on her shooting.

High school games don't care if you are vaccinated. Feel more safe at a college game.

Clay, i saw a picture of your team after it won the Nor Cals. But you were not in the picture. What happened?

I'm the JV coach ... though I go to some varsity practices, I'm not on the varsity staff. I did announce the game, though, and do scouting. In fact, I've got a bunch of games to watch today.
