As for Molly, she's gotten numerous chances because of her Stanford background, and she's recruited very well internationally at USF. She's won enough there that apparently USF didn't care, but remember they also had to fire the baseball staff, pretty much, for sexist stuff.
USF only cares about men's basketball and will only be moved to action in other sports, it appears, by some kind of scandal.
As for Paul Thomas at SMC, a group of players didn't like him, while another group did. He hadn't won for a couple years, and had alienated a few people on campus, so they fired him for, hard as it may seem to believe, swearing in practice. He's suing, of course.
I think the McKeever case had something to do with it, as SMC was afraid they'd get the same kind of bad publicity, but there was no comparison, really. He was an adequate coach, never my favorite -- he never came to a single open gym at Carondelet, despite us having a couple players who could help him, and when I was at Campo, wouldn't even talk to a girl who wound up being all-conference -- but didn't win enough, in the long run.
We'll see how the new coaches do, as SMC is a tough place to win. Moraga is pretty isolated and the school is small. The men got to Australia first, but the women are well below the radar.
